View Full Version : No info on X70????

It's been at least 3 months but there is not a single info on X70...
What are they doing at last?? Is it because Pana is keeping some things secret... or because there's nothing more to show?
Nah, I doubt that. The X70 will likely be a big seller like the GD88, but it does face some stiff competition from Motorola's revamped V-series line and Samsung.
Looks like it will be an interesting time for flip-phone users.

Panasonic has been a bit quiet, though.
Like I have heard nothing about their new BT headset that Sean and I saw at CeBIT in March, either.
Chilling silence.

I've been close to all Panasonic products for the past 4 years. I was on the look for GD93, GD75, GD95 and I tried to find info on these models about 2 months before their launch date. And I did find info and more photos on them...
But for the first time after 4 years, I have no clue as far as it concerns the X70. I have no details, no photos, not a single info on the BT Headset... nothing...
Really quiet...

Naveen - Motorola wouldn't know how to make a decent mobile phone even if they were given a Nokia mobile phone factory! (with all their employees as well)...

Why do I know you speak the truth and I still have the urge to get the new Motorola flip when it comes out---its called loyalty.
I looked around the web this morning and it looks like the Z70 will be out for Christmas. It looks alot like the NEC 515 with a camera though.
I want
Samsung V206
Motorola V600
Panasonic Z70

Nav, you need to have a reason to be loyal, of all my friends who have had Motorola phones - they always seem to have less functionality, or crappy reception. They are always complaining...
Sure I've had a few niggles with my Nokias, but they are solid, dependable and usually have more functionality. But these days
mobile technology is going so fast - you just have to go with the
best phone out at the time - is the V600 going to be better than
any of the others out there? probably not, as phones that have been out for a while and been proven have already got all the features that that phone has... but if that's what you want...

Bigfoot,
I think the most value for the buck will be the Panasonic X70, NEC 525, or the Samsung---Motorola and Nokia just kinda buying the names now. Nokia has kinda become boring now to me. All of their handsets look the same.

Nav, What is the v206? I can't find anything on it on the web...
there is a V205 which looks like a V200 over here...

Panasonic has a mini-website for its new phones, including the X70, here (http://www.panasonicmobile.com/cebit/eng/).
It's a real pity the X70 doesn't have a VGA camera like the Motorola V600/V500/V300, otherwise everything else is perfect, including the looks, but that's just my opinion.

I hadn't seen that site. Thanks. It is a good looking phone. Smaller than the GD87, too.
I didn't get a chance to test out the Bluetooth on it - they wouldn't let me play with it all that much, really.

This website has been there for the past 5 months... after Cebit...
It's a pity that Pana hasn't given anything else to the public...
BUT... lost_rebel from HowardsForums had the chance to "play" a bit with a prototype X70... And here's his info...!!
===================================
Bluetooth- Pretty cool stuff, works with my Jabra freespeak and the blue tooth adapter I have for my computer. The computer link is cool, I can transfer ring tones, wallpapers as well as connect my computer to the internet with it. I did not try the fax capability
GPRS- Downstream speed is about the same as Gx8x but upstream is about 2x faster.
Ring tones- MFM is not supported, at least not right now. But MMF and wav formats are supported. I did not have a chance to try MP3. The ringer is definatly louder!!!!
Wallpapers- Works the same as 87, animated GIFs not supported....at least not yet.
Camera- Same as 87 but does include a pair of bright white LEDs for taking pictures in the dark, or illuminating your locks so you can get the key in! Pictures are automatically saved but you can choose to delete immediately.
Display- It is noticeably smaller than 87 but has the same resolution. Colors are deeper and less blurry.
Phonebook- Mobile will copy the sim phonebook to the mobile.
Games- currently the same as 87
Outside display- shows the clock (which works independent of the inside display) but no network data.
IrDA- Much more stable, works with Ipaq, palm and my sony laptop.
Misc- If you are browsing the data folders of the mobile, you can select either a picture or sound and select us as.....(ring tone, wallpaper etc) Fewer menu presses to do the same thing.
There is still a limit to how biluetooth- Pretty cool stuff, works with my Jabra freespeak and the blue tooth adapter I have for my computer. The computer link is cool, I can transfer ring tones, wallpapers as well as connect my computer to the internet with it. I did not try the fax capability

There is still a limit to how big a file is that can be transferred but it is bigger than 87 but less than 130kb.
You can view thumbnails of the pictures, very nice when the folder has tones of pix.
Mobile supports skins (at least colours) in the main menus past the chooser menu
Chooser menu animations are much nicer.
Granted I have not had a chance to truly test drive it. But I wanted to get some early info up. Slated for release in late Q3 or early Q4, 2003 there does not appear to be any movement for certification with the FCC which is a pre-requisite for acceptance by the GCF for mobiles banded for US use! I suspect launch will be pushed to well into Q4, 2003 or Q1, 2004.

All this info has come from his own site which all Pana fans should visit... The guy is well known and quite trustworthy...

I just had a look at the display specs for the X70 & GD88, both a listed as 132 x 176 pixels. Wouldn't that make the displayes the same size?

nope! there is no standard size for a pixel, it can differ from phone to phone
when loooking at phone display specs there are 2 different facts, pixel resolution and display size

That would mean the pixels on the X70 are smaller than those on the GD88. Goooood!

and your wish(wis, sorry) comes true!! just because they rotated the external display 90 degrees doesnt mean it wont show caller id info, you just have to turn your head 90degrees also, or if youre really daring, you can try to rotate the phone in your hand 90degrees, but be careful, you can really hurt yourself if you go about it the wrong way, for instance, a 270degrees counter clockwise turn can be really painful!!

I've just seen the details of the GX-20 - seems the main screen
will be much better, but the camera may be better on the X-70,
my flatmate took some pictures and did some video with his GX-20, and it did need the right amount of light, but the screen is very good, nice and sharp (no pun intended...). It is light too, although it says 105g it certainly feels lighter than my 8310.

don't you love it how the X70 is panasonics flagship but is superseeded by the G50's ringtone which has 40-tone polyphonic...
things like that make me not want to support panasonic, especially when they haven't even released there phone yet, yet when it finally does get released nearly every other phone on the market has got the equvilent or beter...I think it would have been a different story if they released it 3 or 4 mths ago...

It looks like Panasonic takes their time to get new phones out. I guess the one good way to look at it is that, at least not all Panasonic phones look alike, for example--Nokia

but WHEN will this phone be available??
I have my eye on it- it really is a good phone. I used to own a Panny GD68, it was a decent phone, except for the clunky UI. Does the x70 have any UI improvements? Cuz if it does, I might seriously consider buying it over a Nokia 6600.
