Hey all....

As you're all quite 'connected' in the world of technology I'm pretty sure someone out there must be able to help me.

Quick situation: have a PDA with TomTom3. Want to know if there is a wireless transmitter that transmits with RDS.

Why? Well we've all seen transmitters for people with iPods etc who can just plug the iPod into the transmitter, tune their car stereo to the FM frequency, and hey presto it plays through their speakers.

Well what I want to know is: is there an RDS version? I could tune the stereo to the transmitter and set it as a news station, then I could listen to my MP3s as I drive along. Every time the tomtom gives me new directions the stereo would interpret this as a news broadcast, cut the MP3 and play the direction through the speakers. Then it would return to the music.

Any help? Sorry for the long rant to explain something simple....

Great idea, but I'm not aware of anything that is capable of it yet on the market. You could probably build your own if you know enough about electronics since there are RDS encoders available on the market.

I know what RDS is (sort of- is it where the radio automatically locks to the station and changes the frequencys as required)

But what is TomTom:confused:

TomTom is PDA navigation software for GPS systems. I hear it's quite good.

RDS is something on stereos that shows the name of the station but more importantly can change the radio station or interupt the cd/cassette when a news/traffic broadcast is made from any station.

I am sure you have it in your car, or at least the majority of your friends and family do.

Tomtom is, as said above, a navigation software for PDA's with GPS receivers. And its bloody bloody good. I can holeheartadly recommend TomTom3.

For more info check the Tomtom website (http://www.tomtom.com) .

The device I am looking for would plug into the audio out of the PDA. It would have a preset radio frequency that I would tune the car radio to. An sound output would automatically be broadcast through the car speakers via the radio.
