I dont know what exactly it is... I know that it is a faster data transfer than GRSP. But I am looking to buy a phone with EDGE on it and I want to know mroe importantly than what it is, is how/if it will benefit me. I live in the United States and am a Tmobile Customer.. FYI.

well firstly does your operator support EDGE ??
basicaly EDGE is much faster than GPRS and can do up to 384 Kpb/s compared to around 50 kpb/s for GPRS
as for the pricing i do not know cos there is no such operator have EDGE in here.

So if I have an EDGE device, it wont matter unless my carrier is EDGE technology capable... If thats the case, does anyone know if Tmobile, ATT, or Cingular have it.. or if any of them have plans to get it soon?
Anyone know if the Nokia 6230 has GPRS in addition to EDGE.

AT&T has deployed EDGE on most of their networks. I've heard grumbleing that it isn't any faster than the fastest GPRS yet, but It should get their. And truthfully, I don't think with GPRS, we always got the full bandwidth anyway.

EDGE or EGPRS is a boost up for GPRS. works on the same technologie than GPRS, but a little bit faster, compare it with a 28K modem vs a 64K modem...

AT&T has deplyed EDGE, which of course means, Cingular will now too - Although Cingular just announced EDGE availability in Florida USA. Tmobile has tests going on (supposedly) in the upper mid-west. Their timeline for EDGE was 2004 - they need to get a move on.
Unlimited EDGE on AT&T's network is about $80 a month. IM not sure if that includes a voice plan of not.... or if it would matter price wise if it were the case.. Best bet is to inquire at the site. www.attws.com
