Just wondering if anyone has experienced problems with their 6230 which sounds very similar to one of the 6600 major faults.

Got my phone last Wednesday (08/04/04),shot some clips and a load of pics over the weekend and by Sunday night the phone was switching itself off stating there was not enough memory. So I deleted most of the clips and my free memory had a whole load of space.

But the phone continued to just crash and it now it wont even switch itself on.Got it covered by warrenty in by CPW and its going back today.

Think I'll be demanding a new phone.certainly not keeping a phone which crashes after 5 days.

Has anyone heard of any similar problems.

one thing i would say mate is over here in the uk cpw often release handsets at 80% testing phones 4u test to 100% the release. ours have had no problems so we release the handset on sat.
check the software versions with the exisiting phone to the one u xchange for to ensure u dont have anymore probs.
goodluck

Hi, Im running a 256mb memory card and have around 140mb of video and MP3's running - i have had no crashes in that area.

My crashes have been around bluetooth connectivity - from time to time when connecting to the device, the phone looses its mind and power, resets

have you tried a master reset yet?

Phones4u - please could you tell me at what price you'll be releasing the handset only on saturday?

Just give the memory card a name. Go into the gallery and hilight the memory card. Then go to options and rename the card. Once it has a name it will be visible through bluetooth.

i did that still doesnt work, do u need to use pc suite to detect? and if i do use that wat do i click on?

maan, my pc suite has freaked up, when i click transfer files all i see is my phone symbol and when i click on it i only see contacts folder,....and i do get other 3 folders where the phone symbol is but theyre useless.

Once you have renamed it, turn your phone off and on.

You should see within the Gallery directory the name of your MMC card. This is visible with just standard bluetooth file viewing as well as in the Nokia suite.

i have been in touch with vodafone who have sent gprs settings via sms to my phone..

GPRS still doesnt work and so called voda again and they said it may be a fault with the handset. I bought my phone through singlepoint4u and the guy said that vodafone retail havent released it yet as it is not fully tested.

i have to take it into a vodafone retail store to get it double checked.. will post again once i have news.

I am looking to get a 6230 and this post is kinda scaring me. Are these problems recurring for everyone?? or is just a few handsets going crazy. Also does anyone know if my tzones will work with the 6230?

Another quick question: does anyone know the maximum MMC card that can be placed in the phone?? and how much they run for one?

Also all you people who have used it... is the calender/organizer feature easy to use?? I want some slight pda functions.. but I dont think i need something along the lines of the p900's PDA capablities.

Have now managed to get this sorted. Can now send MMS and access web through GPRS.. all after about 4 phone calls to vodafone and singlepoint4u..

only thing is i now have one too many sim updates on my phone..

for example i have two MMS options under services>settings>connection settings>active service settings

does anyone know how to get rid of these?

I got mine from carphone warehouse.

the phone dosnt crash when i enter that menu, just restarts.

i asked the guy in the shop yesterday about it, he said new firmware should sort it out. btw. i cant access wap on o2, dunno if its the phone or network problem.

Also been having some bluetooth problems.

Basicly, ive been pairing with my computer (by finding the phone from my pc and then pairing), when I disconnect (I go into the active devices menu, and disconnect the device) it says disconnected: 'my pcs name' and then another screen comes up saying disconnecting and just stays like that.

i can exit out of it by pressing the red phone key, but it dosnt let me enter the active devices or paired devices menu again without restarting the phone.

however if i connect with my pc by searching for it from the phone and pairing, i do not have this problem when disconnecting the device.

anyone else come across similar problems?

2 MMS options? i think you can just delete the other 1 U R not using....

nokia mulitmedia converter will only do 11 sec of convertion, not much good if you want to convert a big vid clip

Hey People.
I got my 6230 on Friday and am having a problem. See if you know of this one.

Whenever I try and go to Caller Groups and click into it the phone just goes back to the normal standby screen.

Is there anything that I have to start before I can use this functionality. I am still using my old sim from my 7210 as the new one is not active yet. Would this make a difference?

I hope I don't have to send it back or anything.. Pain in the A**.

Cheers.

Y.

a common known problem and if you tracked down the various 6230 threads you should know that u have to reset the phone to factory settings.

Stand up, run as a wildman and grab your phone and reset it to factory settings ! :D

Sweet. Thanks got the Groups working.
I tried converting an mpeg file and got the same file size limitation. hmmm
Yes you will get that deletion problem, probably because the file is loaded into memory and is locked. Like when someone opens an excel file on the Network and no one else is allowed to edit it. it's not a bug it's just a feature.. hehe .. NOT!!

Yes Just checked and this is the only one you need. However, when coming to save the clip and chosing save as .3gp click on the drop down box below, where is says Resolution and size Limit. Here you can choose No limit and also change the resolution. This way you're not limited by a clip sent as an MMS, which is the 11second clip.

I have a question for anyone out there that may know...
The only time the Music player will play something is when the MP3 file is in the music folder on the internal memory. However, if the files are on the MMC .. and the music folder is empty it just comes back with an error.. How do I change the location to point the player somewhere else?

mp3 files in the MMC must be saved in the "ROOT", dont put it in another folder...

Dense
04-20-2004, 03:31 AM
You can put MP3's in a directory on the MMC card. However you need to use a playlist to access them. I have each directory being the album name and the playlists access each album. Means you are forced to use the PC Suite since its the only way to create playlists.

I am getting seriously frustrated with this integrating devices sans wires stuff. I have just picked up a nokia 6230 which i wanted to hook up via bluetooth to my pda, a sony clie ux-50/u.
Now they both pair up fine, are visible and trusted devices to each other and all, but when i want the two to connect via bluetooth for the sms and email and web functionality the connection fails everytime.
I have gone through this process upteen number of times, initiating the pairing through the pda, then through the phone ..but the two just dont connect after pairing!
They can file transfer between each other..and thats about it!!
Can any body fill me in please???? is it a driver issue in the pda or phone or what??????????????????
help!!

Got another new one with my Phone. Yesterday I was playing with it and everytime I chose a menu item it kept on cutting into the Volume control. Then it would go back to the previous screen. Weird or what.

Also I got mine with a Plantronics M3000 headset. I can pair it and connect it. But then sometimes when I disconnect it, it just won't connect up again. If I delete it from the paired menu and search find and then connect it works. But sometimes even that fails.. Plantronics don't have any idea as they havent' tested with this head set.. At a loss. But I got the head set for free with the phone otherwise I woulda gone with a nokia one.

i see... with the BT headset are you sure you're not somehow resetting the headset everytime you turn it on/off?

and for the 6230 are you sure your finger wasn't on the volume button? can you describe this error a bit more?

No I didn't have my finger on the Volume button. after the first few times it did this I checked and my finger wasn't even close. I can't remember for the life of me which menue feature I was going into at the time..

I'm not resetting the head set. I called Plantronics and they instructed me to just switch the headset off which is what I've been doing. Just a little button pressed once. However I've been testing this today and it's working fine now. Will keep you posted on this.

My 6230 and 6820 both do this. It was one of the reasons I wanted my 6820 reflashed, since I assumed this had to be a bug.

What is happening is that the phone is using your headset for audio of all the beeps and such as you move through the menus. But if you pause for a couple of seconds, it will close the active audio connection. Then when you do something, it reconnects to the headset and shows that stupid headset volume level display again.

Highly annoying.

Anybody else having trouble getting GPRS for normal internet data to work?

I have the WAP stuff working just fine, but am unable to get GPRS to work with Email.

It always tells me to "Subscribe to GPRS first", which is silly, of course. I've had GPRS for a long time, and have configured many a Nokia phone to use it.

I tried getting the setup SMS sent to me, but I never received any of them (T-Mobile USA, prone to problems like that).

I can't imagine what I could be missing. Settings, Connectivity, GPRS, GPRS Modem Settings, and then put the APN in the Active Access Point settings.

And I being stupid here?

There are specific settings for email.

Messages / Message Settings / Email Messages / Ediit Active email settings / Other Settings / SMTP Connection settings (also IMAP4 settings) / Bearer Settings

Hope that helps.

I was really excited for this phone... but I really doubt now since there are a lot of posts with plenty of bugs for the device...

So, the final question is clear: is it a good phone!? Do you recommend it?

In opinion, 6230 has all the features I want from a new mobile: RADIO FM, TFT, Camera, and MP3.

Dense, can you send me a copy of your playlist? Just want to check if it can be edited in one way or another.

I had to do this since I can't access my phone through the bluetooth dongle my PC has. I can access it through the normal bluetooth software but I can't get the 6230 accessed from PC suite.

Anybody of you having the same problem?

Thanks!

Playlists on the Nokia 6230 are so confusing. This is the only way to do playlists.

Make a playlist with whatever application you use to play Mp3's on your PC. Then drop the playlist into the Nokia Audio Manager. This actually determines the songs that will be uploaded to the phone. You'll notice that the playlist in the top window will have a + next to it. If you click on it, it will expand and show you the contents of the playlist. In other words, the playlist needs to be valid on the PC site for it to be used on the phone.

The system is totally braindead and needs to be redesigned. I hope we get that with an upgraded firmware. The worst part is we can't edit the playlist because its stored in a non user editable area of the phone memory.

Once you have a valid playlist, you can then send the MP3's to a folder on the memory card, this allows you to keep things organised.

To make Nokia PC Suite work, make sure you use version 5.8. I could not get 6.0 to work. Then go to Nokia Connection Manager and select Bluetooth. Itll prompt for a serial port, make sure it matched up to the same port the Nokia PC Suite bluetooth profile is using (Browse the services within the Bluetooth Neighbourhood and do properties on the Nokia PC Suite and you will see the com port ghosted out). Once you select the correct comm port, you can then press OK and you will see the phone listed. Click on it and then press apply and the phone will have a tick next to it. You should now be able to use the Nokia Audio Manager.

Dense, thanks for the info. I'll go try and check out what you've recommended. Seems the 5.8 version is for win98/ME. Will it work on my XP?

Additional questions though.

- voice command and voice tags are way to cool but I just can't understand why they would allow voice command on "audible battery/signal bar"? Anyway I can add apps to have voice tags?

- How does the "My Numbers" function works? Sorry if this is "duh?!?" but I really don't know how it works.

- Not sure if these is a bug, but I am using a complete song in an MP3 file for my ringtone but when it gets to around 15 seconds playing, the phone just resets itself. Anybody of you experienced this before? Is this MMC problem? I am using 128 mb generic card but this never happens when I'm using my 6230 as an MP3 player.....

I sent my phone back as it had a problem - will charging for a long period ie overnight.. it would prompt for new date and time settings when switched back on. So i presume the alarm clock would not work.. which is quite important for me..

So got a new phone delivered yesterday.. and it still has the same problem..

So am wondering whether to send it back and cancel the contract.

Am also thinking of selling it on ebay and buying a 6650 if i can get hold of one..

any ideas for a new phone?
