i text msg my friend the other day in chinese (he is also using 6108), then he reply me back in chinese. but i couldnt read any word. later on i asked him if he could read my msg, he said he could, and he show me what he sent to me.
question: how come i couldnt read his message? i have never sent chinese text msg be4. that was my first time. does the sender have to leave space after each word because i did?

if you could send him a msg in chinese, i dun c why you cant read it unless your operator dosent support chinese messaging

Is your phone set to Chinese or English by default?

My boss is using a 6108, and he leaves it running in Chinese so he can send and receive chinese texts easily...(not sure if that helps - I think that pinyin input is enabled when the phone is using Chinese, and it is disabled when the phone is using English).

Again, not sure if it will make a difference for you, but perhaps it is worth a try.

my phone is set to english by default, and so is my friend's, but of cos i can switch to chinese any time. my friend is an ABC, i dont think he will use chinese menu by any chance.

and what is that "pinyin input" u were talking about? could u explain it more? are u talking about the pen input?

plus, can this phone ever read or write in traditional chinese? if so, how to set it?

thanks everyone........:D

Pinyin input is where you type in the pinyin sounds for the chinese characters using letters -

"wo shi meiguoren" = I am american

Anyway, when you type in the "wo" then you should get a list of characters for the sound wo and then you pick the one you need...I'm not sure if you can call it Chinese T9, but it's the same idea and works about the same...

Nothing to do with the 6108's pen input.

I imagine that the phone can handle traditional Chinese (you can get it in Hong Kong, where they mainly use traditional characters), but you might have to select traditional characters for the phone's language settings, otherwise it may not let you use them. (If I'm wrong on this, then someone please correct me...it's not like my boss lets me spend all day checking out his phone)...

thanks, DaninChina. i understand what u are saying, but i donno how to set it to pinyin input. cos if i wanna input chinese, i usually use the pen, and thats all i no, and so does my friend. as i mentioned in my last reply be4, my friend is an ABC. the best he knows is to write some simple chinese words.

about the T9 thing. i donno, my phone only support english T9, not chinese. i think its something about the network that we are using. (i might be wrong, please correct me if so) if there is not about the network, i will love someone tell me more about T9.

thanks........:D

i should clerify one more thing, i THOUGHT my phone is from hk, but actually, i got it from the chinese store here in new york. so i just ASSUMED that the phone is from hk, but they might get it from somewhere else......
