Hi all, I have what could be a very complex question..

I know that the new nokia phones 6600, 6230 etc can play video that is uploaded to the MMC if it's converted to .3GP extension?

I have a few old shows on VCD (childhood nostalgia) when I put them in my comp the video file is .dat, what I'm wondering is if there is a way to convert .dat to .3gp although I'm not sure if the quality would be worth it, but I figure it's worth a look if it's possible to do.

Thanks.

You need to convert the DAT file to MPEG format, use this:

http://www.vcdgear.com/download.html

Then you can convert MPEG to 3GP relatively simply and there is software all over the net for that. Try Helix Producer Plus or something.

Download this - will allow you to convert your files and even upload them to the phone via the browser - works fine

I've had a simpsons episode on my phone, but the sound quality was aweful and the picture quality was quite poor too, but bearable. I also have a feeling that when i deleted the 10 meg file that's what caused my phone to go crazy, i dont know why that would be the case but i couldn't think of any other reason why it would have.

Hmm.. Cyberdog has got me a little worried, I don't want my 6230 (when I actually get it) to die (or at least the MMC) from uploading/deleting large files.

Just curious about the screen size, I assume I just convert the file using the software and the phone takes care of how to display it depending on the phone's screen size (obviously the 6230 will have a smaller display than the 6600).

I guess if I'm going to do this, I'll definitly need to get a bigger MMC. So 32MB works fine, as does 64 & 128.. 256MB works depending on the brand? and no one has tried higher? The phone's not going to short circuit with what could possibly be a MMC that shares a large video file, photos, mp3s and video clips is it?

I wish this phone would hurry up and come out..

Quick question, what's the best software to use to convert from .3gp to another format?

Either .mpg .avi .mov - is there a particular format that is best to use? I want to keep the file size as close to the .3gp file size as possible with the same sound/video quality.

I want to send the videos I took to some people in the office. The office comps use Windows Media Player 6.4

Try out QuickTime 6.5 Pro, you can pay for it (or possibly crack it - but that's something for you to look into) and it can read and cross convert .3GP (to and from) files that I know.
