vcard import irregularities

I have a 3620(series 60) handset.

I can download and beam(infrared) contacts in vcard format into the phone, but they are being saved as 'notes' and I see no way to convert them into contacts. Am I missing something obvious? They are listed as .vcf files, so I don't know what else I can to persuade the phone to import them.

phone to phone or phone to computer?

I have some beamed in from a pc via infrared and some downloaded from the internet with nokia's built-in browser.

All get saved as 'notes'.
