all my life i ve heard how stereo is better than mono, all my experience here has also said such

can anyone explain to me how they actually sound different?

with mono sound, you hear the same sound comming out of both louthspeakers. the channels are the same...
with stereo sound, there is a left and a right channel that can play totaly different. so it's possible to hear for example the voice comes out of the right channel and the instruments comming out of the left speaker...
nothing more than that, that rest is the same, it's just the channels (left and right) are spit...
quality isn't different (all the same depending codec)

a step further is 5.1 or even 7.1. these are 5 or 7 channels that contain music info (more used in Home cinema sytems...)
