Stupid 7600

Is there a way I can stop my nokia 7600 from trying to connect to a 3G network every now and then? I'm using an orange pay as you go sim.

I've tried contacting nokia uk who told me to contact a local nokia service centre. The service centre said that as the phone was only released on three here in the uk I can't use it on orange and there's nothing they can do.

I remember reading on these boards that a software update is/will be available to allow me to use 'gsm mode only' (which is NOT an option in my phone at the mo, I think its been blocked out).

Is there a way for me to update the phone to allow me to set it to gsm without going to the nokia service centre? Through a website perhaps? Or can I make the gsm option appear if I reset the phone to factory settings?

Please help as I wanna get the most out of my phone. Apart from this problem, its a right little cracker!

I had just the problem u had citizen k. I was using a Tmob sim and it automatically selected a 3G signal with poor reception rather than a gsm signal. I called up three and carphonewarehouse and they couldnt help. Called up Nokia but they were unhelpful. Youre right by thinking that the GSM mode has been blocked out. It has BY 3.

But however i read some where that in about 5 months nokia will be able to provide a software upgrade so you can actually select between 3G and GSM network modes.

There may be another way to do it so id carry on searching for a solution to that annoying problem or hope for that software update to come out earlier.

mine still has the option of choosing between gsm and dual mode... dun blame nokia or the phone, it's ur service provider who blocked it

I love the phone! Just a bit annoyed is all. Do you know any way I can re-enable the gsm option? Will factory settings fix it?

:( citizen k, i am afraid not cos ur operator disabled it. that's what i am led to believe
