http://www.symbian-freak.com/images/news/07/11/firmtm.jpg (http://www.symbian-freak.com/news/007/11/new_n95_firmware_v20.htm)
Nokia has released a new firmware (http://www.symbian-freak.com/quides/firmware/firmware.htm) version for Nokia N95 classic (http://www.symbian-freak.com/reviews/n95/n95_review_01.htm), firmware v20.0.015 is already available and supported via the NSU (http://www.symbian-freak.com/news/006/08/nokia_software_updater.htm) and will be available progressively at the official Nokia Points and Nokia Service Points in the next few days.
Thisrelease should improve the Nokia N95 (http://www.symbian-freak.com/reviews/n95/n95_review_01.htm) performance as well as fix known bugs and problems from previous versions. As we have already reported (http://www.symbian-freak.com/news/007/11/new_n95_firmware_is_on_the_way.htm) few days ago, the firmware itself looks very promising and brings lot of improvements, improvements like.. .. .

hi teo... Thanks!!!
- slideshow bug is gone.
- keypress bug is gone.
- phone is faster overall.
from AAS:
"You may wish to take the firmware upgrade as an opportunity to reinstall your applications (via SIS file) and data (via Outlook or SyncML sync) manually. This is generally a 'cleaner' method than restoring a backup (e.g. you may have manually installed Nokia Search version 4 [as it would be included in a backup], but is integral to the new firmware). We recommend you make a backup regardless of which method you choose.
Changes in the new firmware
- New Welcome application
- New camera software and tweaks from the 8GB model - FAR faster shot to shot time, with 'Processing image message' during any delays
- Long press on camera button launches camera if shutter is open
- New My Nokia SMS tips and mobile web portal system
- Demand paging (for ROM applications) with 30 plus MB free RAM after booting. ==>no more 'out of memory' messages!
- Search 4.0 integration on standby screen.
- N-Gage game previews (FIFA, Asphalt) and portal/shortcut to upcoming N-Gage client, as in N81 and N95 8GB
- Nokia Music Store client, although the store server hasn't been updated to handle the N95 yet - maybe this'll happen later today
cheers!

Don't forget this update:
*TRACKING FEATURE REMOVED FROM NOKIA MAPS APPLICATION
Also, can someone verify if the call log bug is still in this firmware? The one where the call log shows EVERY call as a MOBILE icon?

Looks pretty quick to start up.
I'd upgrade mine straight away but that means I have to reinstall my apps again and I don't have those stored on this lappy for me to quickly put them back on.
Liking the news on the 66% more free ram (although it's really only 12) at least that should reduce slightly the Low memory errors.

... batt life is improved!
New Nokia N95 Firmware Boost Battery Life
Last update: 28-11-07 Submitted by assa
You might have already updated your Nokia N95 classic with the new firmware v20.0.015. At least 2 users has reported a better battery usage management offered by the new firmware.
If you read the full change log of the new Nokia N95 firmware, a new feature called "DVFS (Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling)" has been added to the phone. This has enabled a more efficiency usage on the batter power, and it is reported to add about 20% more battery life when running low-cpu task.

I've just found that you can now use Video ringtones on the V20 software. Was this available on the V12 or is it new?

It wasn't in V12 but it isn't new either.
Video ringtones were available in the beta firmware of the N95 but since it crashed when the ringtone was under 30s (or whenever the call divert kicks in) they removed it from the final firmware.
Finally they've put it back though, always nice to have the option.

I've just connected my phone in "Media Player" mode via USB (btw, I love the fact it doesn't connect until you select something :D), and WMP11 is reporting it as an N95 8GB. Would the be the handset reporting wrong or WMP recognising the phone incorrectly?

I would guess both.
What I like about Media Player mode is the playlist support.

I am still unable to find this option. How can i enbale Video Ringtones??
VodaMatt

You should just be able to choose a video when selecting a ringtone (under Personalisation, Tones, Ringing Tone). The video's need to be in either MP4 or 3GP for them to work.

I have experienced a new problem while taking snapshots. While opening the shutter, a blank screen (black) appears in display for 1-2 secnds and then the camera gets activated. Same thing happens when you take a picture. blank screen appears while procedding.
I don't know whether this is a problem, but are others also experiencing the same?

Mine does to (about 1-2 second delay between shutter open and viewfinder active), but having said that most S60 based phone's I've used have had some sort of delay when opening the camera before an image is displayed on the screen. I figure it's probably a part of how the sensor works, but not sure. Anyone got any other ideas?

Call log bug STILL exists. Very sad Nokia... very sad.Come on, they're working on it. They were too busy removing the "start tracking" feature from the Nokia Map application to be worried about a silly little thing like a bug fix that's been around since v10.

On balance the new firmware is great, despite not having the call log sorted - don't you think?

The firmware is great. Nokia didn't officially announced, whether this firmware will support memory cards exceeding 4GB. Has anyone tried memory cards above 4GB with this firmware??

and to my shock, the phone powered itself off midway! (it was fully charged, and the charger is attached!) all i saw on the screen was the nokia logo. the software updater kept on asking me to do phone recovery, and the update would appear to be progressing only to stop at about 80% completion. it was my first attemp on updating a phone software, and from the forums i've read, i knew its going to be a disaster but i kept doing the phone recovery while blaming myself for bricking my phone. after countless trials, i finally accepted my fate - that i've killed my n95! the next morning, i was ready to pack my n95 to be sent to a nokia service centre, i realized i still could not send the phone out as it was xmas day i've decided to gave it one more go. i jumped out from my chair when the update reached 100% and the phone powered up and the screen showed a series of test the phone is doing! my my, the darn phone came back to life! what a xmas gift! lol
the phone showed it's V20.0.015, 13-11-07, RM-159, Nokia N95(66.01). i've observed the phone to be a lot faster, web browsing on wlan is so much better (haven't encountered a "memory full" error since then). i've also noticed the camera app behaves diffirently. when taking a photo, the screen turns black when the image is being captured and saved, while the previous version keeps the image on the screen and reverts to the saved image afterwards which is sometimes different from what it initially looked on the screen. this was very annoying specially when taking a photo of a moving object. one more thing, the phone reboots itself quite too often! sometimes 2-3 times a day! does anyone got this problem on the new firmware???

Do i have to redownload all the maps that i have downloaded before? I noticed that after i upgraded, there doesn't seem to be any maps.. I zoomed in, and usually i would see the street and stuff, but now all i see is a a blank when zoomed in.
Also is there a way to remove the Search Internet and My Content from the main menu?
The new firmware is definitely way faster.. my previous firmware was 10.xxxx so this is the first firmware upgrade for me.. everything upgraded smoothly.. the backup had some slight problems but other than that i think everything is working fine. The camera definitely take pictures way faster.. not sure about the quality yet.

i've found the cause of my phone's rebooting problem. it happens whenever i lost the wifi connection from my router. guess the phone tries to reconnect but ends up freezing and finally rebooting itself.... is there a way for me to connect to my router manually?
madcool, guess you had installed your maps on your phone memory and it got deleted when you did the udpate...
