Nokia 5500 Sport

I have just purchased a Nokia 5500 sport from another country. It was supposed to be unlocked. I have service in the United States with AT&T, my sim card will work in the phone but it will not recieve a signal too well in rural areas. Does anyone have any suggestions on a fix?

The only fix is to have a different phone. The 5500 Sport doesn't have the 850MHz that is commonly used in rural areas, like where my school is, so I had to replace my Eurasian Nokia E70-1 with a quadband ROKR E6.
