The first wave of W910i’s are all being recalled by Orange. Why? Because the phone function is somehow causing the device to switch off after 10 seconds and its also not answering calls.

Well, that kinda makes a phone, well, not a phone, doesn’t it? Some people who are returning them, are getting exchanges, and then the exchanges are having the same damn problem.

Someone needs to do something, preferably Sony Ericsson, letting such a fiasco get this out of hand is ridiculous. So, I’d definitely recommend waiting to get the latest installment of Walkman line of phones.

more then likely a network issue.

more then likely a network issue.

It'd be more likely a locking issue (or branding issue) than the network itself. While it is possible for a provider to switch a phone on or off remotely, hardly any providers have it enabled on the network, and even fewer actually use it.

the first article said "some" were recalled... now here's another one that says "ALL" were recalled.

sigh... I wonder what happened to SE's quality control inspectors? Were they all taking a lunch break when the W910 was being made?

.......

"Early adopters of Sony Ericsson W910i on the Orange network may have noticed that their phones suffer a tiny little flaw -- shutting down 10 seconds into a phone call.

The bug only wormed its way into a small number of W910s sold by Orange, but the two companies are not taking any chances -- they have recalled every W910i sold thus far for inspection and repair / replacement. Models in stores now are apparently fine, but we're hearing scattered reports of replacements having the same problem as well. No word on what's causing the problem, but we can't seem to get through to SE to get more details -- the call keeps ending, for some reason.
