Nokia 8800 Arte

The Nokia 8800 Arte and Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte combine elegant appearance and uncompromised functionality. On the surface, the seamless metal and glass body gives the Nokia 8800 Arte and Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte an incomparable sense of style, while under the skin their hearts are driven by pure innovation. By tapping the steel surface below the display, an analogue clock appears - indicating time in its most classic form. Incoming calls on a Nokia Arte handset can be silenced gracefully with the "turn-to-mute" feature - allowing owners to quiet their phone inconspicuously by simply turning over the phone, screen-side down. Other state-of-the-art features include:

* 2.0" QVGA 240x320 pixels, OLED display with up to 16 million colors
* 3.2 megapixel auto focus camera with 8x digital zoom
* 3G capabilities
* 1 GB built in memory space
* MicroUSB all-in-one-connector
* Anti-fingerprint coating on metal and glass

Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte

Both the Nokia 8800 Arte and Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte feature a high-end metal and glass composition, creating their classic, iconic style. The Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte adds to the sense of exclusivity by further enhancing its polished steel case with a genuine sapphire gem stone and an accent of soft leather, creating an even more rich, sensual feel.

more pointlessly expensive phones :sigh:

Who seriously buys these 8800s? they are niche marketed towards the super-rich and often have less than impressive specs.

granted this one has a decent camera and 3g now. I just don't see the appeal....that said the way you turn it over to reject a cal is pretty cool

I never looked at my 8600 and said, hmm.. I wish it had 3G :p But I wouldn't mind giving having Anti-Fingerprint coating on it :p

Bottom line for me, doesn't look as good as one would expect (mentioned in other thread regarding this phone) and I wouldn't trade my 8600 for it. Case Ended for me. Just more models from Nokia.

Another thing, the slide seems to just slide down rather than spring loaded action. Quite boring.

I guess I was wrong about the slide. It does slide up like the 8800. Another point I come accross based on the pics below from Mobile-Review, if Nokia managed to get rid of the drawbacks of the 8800's keypad and update it in the Sirocco, why did they put the same original one BACK in the 8800 Arte?
It is moving towards the Vertu a bit with all the leather bits.

- It has the turn-over-to-silent feature from those Nokia Demos (As in, when phone rings, turn over to silent)
- 1GB internal storage seems quite good (brought from the 6500 iam guessing) some of which are left aside for PIM approx 22MB.
- Micro USB only straight of the Nokia 8600
- The Sapphire model has the OK button as a small Sapphire in the same color as the casing
- 1000 mAh BL-4U battery ;)

Leather inserts?!

Blimey, they're really taking this "executive" phone too far!

Still, if it didn't attract finger prints so much it'd be an alright looking phone
