Nokia 6288 - Problems?

Hi there

Hope someone can guive me some advice please. I bought what I was told to be a new Nokia 6288 froma "friend" and when I have tried to insert a new 3sim card, it states "Sim Card Registration Failed".

Obviously i have no warranty or whatever but is there any way/anyone who can help me get this sorted (whatever it means?).

Do I need a different 3 sim card?

Is it a locked phone? (dont know much about it though cause in India we dont really have locked phones) or if not the only other explanation can be that your sim card is spoilt, did you try inserting it in another handset?

Yes the phone is locked to the 3 network. i tried the sim in another phone and it's ok. BUT when i put this sim in my nokia 6288, it comes up with that message??

This message can appear if the phone's network settings are incorrect. Try going into your settings menu, and there should be an option for "Network" (could also be under "Phone>Network"). Set Operator Selection (may differ) to "Automatic" and Netork Mode to "Dual Mode".

Just FYI, it's been about 6 months since I've used a 6288 but these instructions are farily generic.
