Nor did Nathan. But it would have been stupid for them to have died as that ending didn't make sense at all - it was so unnecessary to have flown Pete away after the plan was just to shoot him (then remove it and have him heal)

Maybe pete pushed Nathan away, flew a bit further himself and then blew up?
