I, in my spare time, like to review software for Communicators. They are more like a walk-through. Anyways I used to do a few with my old 9500 then I sold it so I stopped, now that I own an E90 I am back and wanted to see if Software Reviews would be appreciated in this forum like the others.

Handy Profiles Review.

Handy Profiles is a program similar to many rival profile managing software. It is simple, basic and easy to use which probably are its main qualities, but it does have a few features not in other similar applications.

This review was based on the trial version, so upon loading this message will be displayed.

Once the application is open, the current profiles available are seen. Pressing options will start the usage. Here are the options available.

Starting from the top; "Activate" activates the highlighted profile, "Timed activation" is a nice feature which lets you select a profile other than your default for a timed period. At the end of which, the default profile will be selected automatically. This is used for when a user wants a temporary timed profile.

Next comes "Personalize" which is the same editing a profile found under the Profiles application built-in on the phone which lets you change ringing tones, volume, alerts, Etc.
Under that comes the rules, "Edit rules" lets you create rules for your profiles based on 3 main factors; Time, Calendar and Location.

To select a particular profile to come on and go off at fixed timings, the "Time interval" would come in handy. Simply go down to the profile wished to come on, Select "Edit Rules”, New > Timed Interval. To which you would get this screen where you select what time the profile would come on, go off and

the days of the week that you require this profile to be enabled.

The second type of rule the program offers is to set profiles based on a calendar entry. Also, it is in "Edit rules", New > Calendar entry. It brings this, which lets you select a profile based on a particular wording in your calendar

and "where" to find that wording.

For example, if an entry is put in the calendar with the location of Nokia Head-Quarters, just fill that location/name in "Keyword" and once that entry becomes current, the selected profile will come on.

The final rule of this program is probably a new feature on profile managers. It bases the selection of profiles upon the phones location using GSM Cell ID! This is under "Edit rules", New > Location.
Once selected, it will need to search for the Current Locations where the selected profile will be turned on.
http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/9022/screenshot0016gu5.jpg
It will ask the user to walk around the current place such as their office or home so it can pick up how many GSM Cell IDs available for that place.

Then, it will require a name for the current location where the search was.

Once selected, the current profile will automatically be selected when the phone enters this GSM Cell ID. There can be more than one location where the selected profile can come on and there will be an icon on the right indicating that this profile will be turned on in a specific location.

Back to the main options of the program, there is a selection to make a new profile but since Series 60 3rd Edition has high security, 3rd party applications can not create new profiles but it does allow you to go directly to the standard profiles application to add or remove profiles.

There is also an option to select which of the available profiles would be the default profile. This is important because of the "Timed activation" feature which after the certain amount of time selected finishes; the default profile would be automatically selected.

About Handy Profiles.

I really liked the program and it is made perfectly and direct to do the task of handling profiles. Rivals of this program do have more features such as changing wallpaper, Bluetooth status, run certain applications, upon profile change or select a specific profile when the phone is being charged, etc which might be nice to have as extras.

Experience: Program was very stable, 100% compatible with the Nokia E90 and there were no slow moments or crashes at all while doing a very good basic job of handling profiles. As far as profiles are concerned I would rate it 8/10.

The program tested was a trial and not a full version although it was fully functional.
The trial and full version can be found at the My-symbian.com Online Shop (http://my-symbian.com/s60v3/download/search.php?name=Handy%20Profiles)
