I take it you have a Symbian smartphone or something.
Google ' Advanced Device Locks ' & this may be what you're looking for.
Great little application that password protects any menu/feature on your phone.
I have it installed , & whenever you want to send a message , or you receive a message , when you press the massage button it will ask for your password before you can write/read a message.

Motorolas and many Samsungs have this option by default.

Absolutely.
My old Moto 7 Sammy both had this security feature.
The Moto you could password protect any application , the Sammy you had a choice of 3 , one being messages.
Seems to be a feature that's missing on Nokia , SE etc.
