China's Mobile-Phone Users Rise to 501.7 Million at End of June.

July 24 (Bloomberg) -- China, the world's biggest mobile- phone market by users, last month added 7.1 million subscribers after the nation's two largest wireless-phone companies cut prices.
China gained a total of 40.6 million users in the first six months of the year, for a total of 501.7 million, Wang Lijian, a Ministry of Information Industry spokesman, said by phone today.
Demand for mobile services rose after the government allowed operators China Mobile Ltd. and China Unicom Ltd. to introduce billing systems in February that waive charges for incoming calls. The nation's mobile-phone users grew at about eight times the pace of fixed-line customers last month as more people switched to wireless services.
China added 4.9 million fixed-line users in the first six months, bringing the total to 372.7 million, Wang said. The nation added 500,000 fixed-line phone users in June.
