A recent survey conducted by an iPhone blog suggests that the expected selling price for Apple's new piece of kit is way too high, and won't be the big seller the American firm are hoping for.

Makes for interesting reading. Maybe Apple won't enter the market as explosively as they want.

Interesting article.
I agree that it's priced a little too high...
but then, we just cant discount the hundreds of thousands of 'apple fans' out there. Some people will pay anything which has an "apple logo" in it.
take for example the obiquitous iPod, itself already priced too high for what it can do, but it's still selling, right?
cheers!

The margin on those things is pretty darned good I think, Apple won't care if it's a huge seller or not.. as difenbaker says, there are some people who will buy it anyway regardless of the price.
Apple have sold 100 million iPods worldwide. If just a few percent of those people go on to buy an iPhone then that's still potentially a significant market.
Remember the RAZR when it came out? It was a very expensive, high margin item. The exclusivity was one of the key points to generate a "buzz".. when they price started to drop then sales went through the roof because Moto had created ideal market conditions.
(Of course, the RAZR is nothing like the iPhone, but I'm talking marketing rather than techie stuff).

It's annoying how much Apple fans will sacrifice to get a stupid Apple. My friend needs a new laptop, but won't "settle" for a fairly decent Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop that's only $500 compared to a MacBook at over twice the price.

Apple showed its cards too early... the buzz has died down, not to mention the clones coming out of the woodwork. Having said that, they'll sell truckloads :)

People will probably buy just coz its an apple.. Just becoz its the "iphone" .. i mean the cam is fixed focus and whatever i've read says that you cant install third party apps.. that sucks...

Exactly! It's nowhere near as revolutionary as Steve Jobs makes it out to be. There've already been multiple hard drive phones, the Samsung i310 having a TEN GB one at that. Full HTML internet has already been done excellently by S60 and Windows Mobile, and of course music capability on phones has been in place for some time now.
The only conceivably revolutionary thing about the iPhone is the accelerometer (which really I might find annoying myself since there are many instances when I want to view something by a different angle) and the multi-touch screen, although honestly, I can't really see myself buying into the touchscreen-only input. I still prefer a QWERTY keyboard to anything, personally.
But even conveying all this, I can't convince people to not be engrossed with the damn iPhone. It's quite annoying and aggravating.
