I've hearded rumors of a new OS from Nokia called Series 70, which will support larger screens.

Does anyone know something about that ?

Rumors say that it will not be released yet, because other manufacturers will be upset (Samsung, who is developing Series 60 phones).

Wow, how considerate. I'd think that Nokia would purposely release the phone to weaken other manufacturer sales.

This is very difficult. On one hand Nokia really wants to introduce the new Series 70 with new phones, but when on the other hand Nokia wants manufacturers lika samsung and Panasonic to get into the game and feel welcomed, cause the are in fact paying Nokia money for the OS and Nokia wants to profit from that and by releasing a new software and new phones that are better than the others they could destroy their connections to large manufacturers like Samsung and Panasonic.

My point is that I'm not sure of Nokias intentions with Symbian and Series 60 ???

Would not Series 70 be a Symbian product, not a Nokia product?

If so, all the shareholders in Symbian should have equal access to Series 70.

Nokia, however, probably has more resources to pick up the S70 platform and churn out phones using it, plus get more support from Symbias as the main shareholder.

If Series 70 even exists, of course :)

Note that Nokia is the pure owner and inventor of the Series60 UI platform. The Symbian OS (6.1, 7.0, etc) is not owned by Nokia. But the Series60, 40, 80, and 90, are all works of Nokia and their right all resolve to Nokia.
