Hi. Do we have forum members whose using the Vista OS of Microsoft. If yes, can one somehow provide information on it's usefulness. Are there operations on Vista that cannot be accomplished on XP? I have read many negatives on Vista and very few on the other side. I thought Microsoft is so confident that Vista won't get any Service Packs. But the statement was changed. Vista SP1 will be released half of 2007.
Can someone comment on their Vista enabled notebook/PC? I'm planning to buy a notebook with preinstalled Vista if it is worth the buy. thanks!:)
I'm running Vista on my primary notebook, a Core Due HP. Software compatibility has been good for me, and productivity wise it is slightly better than XP. Still the same basic system though. A2DP doesn't work at all, which pisses me off, and battery life is not as good as with XP, but other than that I'm pretty happy. Really though, apart from the security stuff, it is just XP with a dinner gown on.

Nice to hear those! :) and thanks for the reply. Regarding the A2DP, is it OS-fault or is there a microsoft hot-fix for this?

LOL. :D

It's a Microsoft problem, and there isn't a fix yet, but they say that they are working on it. A very limited number of devices work through the WIDCOMM drivers, but they are pretty shakey under Vista.

I see. I guess I have to go with the one with XP Pro preinstalled. The notebook I am eying is a vaio sz38 (core 2 T7400) and has this logo labeled "Windows Vista Capable". The other model SZ43 having a lower processor (T7200) has Vista preinstalled and reading at notebookreview.com, some are reformatting their units back to XP.
So Vista isn't that reliable yet? i mean for other special matters and maybe Vista SP1 has lots of problem fixes with the OS. :)

No, that isn't what I meant. Quite the opposite actually. I can only remember Vista crashing once in the few months that I've been using it. I did have my system die due to some dodgy drivers, but other than that it is rock solid.

Quite opposite... with shaky and crashing... :D of course i know you are positive in the context.
anyway, any OS do the thingy. even xp do that and sometimes will malfunction if you bruteforce driver installation... anyway, i might get the SZ38 with preinstalled XP Pro instead of the sz43 with vista business. wait don't get me wrong. I will be getting the sz38 coz it has a higher processor T7400 Core 2 Duo and it's carbon fiber case whereas the sz43 is magnesium only.
I will upgrade to separate Vista and buy ah.... the $8 version from Iran. LOL. i think i might buy the original vista business as you suggested. thanks for the replies. And oh, here's my two rep power! take it. :D
Edit: Why can't i post rep on you? It's says spread the word of God. LOL. kidding. Ok, let me spread some rep first...
They were third party drivers, but they were signed, no brute forcing. Everything is fine and happy now though.
I don't know why you can't give me rep, PM me if the problem persists.

So far so good on my notebook w/vista, once I figure where vista is and works I'll upgrade my desktops. Looks a bazillion times better than xp, I've only been doing office stuff on it so far. the only hiccup i've found with it is it doesn't print to a printer shared on an xp machine.

I've got home premium, the media center especially looks much more refined and sophisticated. The more I use vista, the more XP resembles a skinned version of Windows 2000
