Hi All!!

This is my first ever thread that i have posted! but i have a problem. My brand new 6600 is freezing up and gives the error message "app closed xxxx" where xxxx is the program related. Eg: App closed Mediagallery, or App closed Main. Whats wrong? It also frequently gives me the error "Cannot complete write to disk". then it also bombs out of everything. this is crap. I get a top of the range phone and it gives me this! Any help will be appreciated!!!!! oh and you guys are my only hope. No-body here in South Africa knows anything about the 6600 so i'm in the dark here! Thanks

My N-Gage occasionally throws up those errors and it doesn't normally affect it much. I've had a shock once when it booted and said 'error loading data' and then powered off again. I think it's just the volatility of the Symbian OS which is the price you pay for running a fully blown OS on a phone - at least it's better than Windows, eh!

Try getting a software update at the local Nokia centre, that'll fix most problems (it's free). Also what MMC are you using. It's a known fact the phone doesn't support above 128mb and sometimes they can cause errors with the OS if you use 256/512mb cards. Also cracked/tampered applications and games can cause problems with the phone.

I get the occasional errors on my 3650 too, sometimes it can't load the pics from my memory card so I have to switch the phone off/on again which sorts it. The other one I get is a bit of a mystery to me, sometimes when I switch the phone on I get the message "Error - KernMain.exe Application closed" or something like that, I haven't a clue what it means but it doesn't seem to effect anything!
Probably a glitch in the Symbian OS?

Thanks for all the replys. the situation has deteriorated to such an extent that my MMC card is useless. so it's obviously the card. I'm using a 32MB one by the way, the one that came with the phone. not using any dodgy apps. don't even know where to download cracked symbian stuff.... anyone want my 6600 in trade for a SE P900?? I could pay in a bit maybe!!! :)

My company has got a developement unit for the Nokia N-Gage and I've used it for about 2 weeks maybe?

Hasn't given me problems but I reckon restarting the phone once in awhile should help

Sounds strange... Mine has been rock-solid. BTW what firmware are you running? The best thing is going to be flashing it, like the first poster said.

^You will LOSE EVERYTHING, but that's probably the only solution. I recently reformatted, but because I had installed some sort of program and messed up something in the registry. (Long story. I sound like a newb, but im a highly advanced Symbian user, and I know EXACTLY what I did wrong lol). Fortunately for me, I had all my contacs on my SIM card, but I shot myself for not exporting them to the MMC (This can be done with a certain program called contacts manager [and others]. Find it in the Yahoo groups, install it, and export the contacts onto MMC. after you've formatted, install the program again and Import. I've never used it myself, but that's what it's made for and that's what its supposed to do)

I'm using the same firmware as you are. My system has been ROCK SOLID. Any errors have always been due to programs. Programs can be a problem because most were designed and tested for the Nokia 3650 which uses the Symbian 6.0 base. The 6600 uses the Symbian 7.0 base (same as P900), which is why some programs enounter problems. If you need any help, PM me. I've had the 6600 for a while now, and I've explored every nook and cranny, even the ROM. Imagine, I've managed to dig out the MIDI file for the startup tone :D. I sent it to one of my friends at school by bluetooth, which prompted a "WTF!?":D

I HOPE that helps, and good luck.

@CaESaR-ZN:
My sister's 6600 had the same problem. Go to a Nokia Care Center and have a firmware upgrade done. That should do the trick.

Are you using the phone's orginal MMC or did you change it?

Also, check the amount of ringtones, pictures and third party applications you have on the phone. The phone will have a hard time functioning if all the memory is used up, so you may need to delete some files (please don't delete the installed files of the 6600 or your phone won't work properly).

Your best chance to have your phone fixed is bringing it to a Nokia Care center, so find one in your area now. Good luck.

The highlighted items above could be the problem because:

@CaESaR-ZN:
I'm not 100% sure, but when I had my series 30 Nokia phone upgraded, all the contacts were intact. I honestly don't know how a Symbian phone reacts to an upgrade.

I still can't find a way to put the contacts of my 7610 to my rs-mmc. With messages, there's an option to do that but not for contacts (or perhaps I'm missing something).

My advise to you is to use your pc suite and back-up all your contacts in your personal computer. That way, you won't have to worry with regards to your contacts being lost.

Good luck. Go to an authorized Nokia Care center for an upgrade. Less headaches that way.

Cheers.

Only thing is, even if you backup your contacts then send the phone in and get a replacement, the change in IMEI will prevent restoration of the data (though you can hack it; I did with a 7650 and whilst it took the best part of an hour, I had a new 7650 with all the data from my old one).
