I know that alot of windows handsets can be upgraded is it possible to upgrade a wm5 to wm6

Possible, it's up to the manufacturers to provide the new firmware, and most devices won't be getting it, :(

Alternative, there are not offical firmware upgrades available on the Internet. It's not legal, so you will have to search for it and you will lost all warranty and offical support if you uses them.
