Hey was just wondering since the N-Gage has got an integrated Mp3 player, just wondering if there was such a third party software which could play mp3's off the MMC card off the Nokia 3650/3660/6600. I mean it would be nice to have a sofware which could also use the mp3 as a ringtone on these models. Any suggestion of such software available?

not sure about the ringtone as i don't really know what this 'true tones' is which is available in 6600.. but as for 3650/3660 there is software to playback mp3s (and there has being for ages) but bear in mind you haveto use the nokia headset which is **** for listening to music... also the battery life is supposedy really bad when you have the mp3 on.. not sure though as i only had 16mb of memory to play with on my 3650; so i never bothered with mp3.

True Tones is wideband AMR, a Nokia format which you can expect to pay for - i.e. avoid it like the plague.
I think the best MP3 software is probably MP3Go (is that it's name?) or something similar, a quick search on the net will bring something up. But as expected it is pretty CPU intensive and will kill the batteries. I think you can use WAV ringtones on a 36xx phone, so why not just do that? You'll only need a handful of ringtones on there at a time anyway.
Also like the 6600, I think 36xx sound output is mono. N-Gage has the best implementation of MP3 (and it's stereo) in a phone to date, I believe.

I use a WAV file for the ringtone on my 3650 (Did My Time by KoRn to be exact) which I converted from MP3 and it sounds really great!

the so called True Tones sound terrible, wav sounds so much nicer
Playing MP3s on any s60 phones (inc. 3650) is pretty simple.
There are a variety of programs out there that do it, My favorite is Mp3Player 2.1 from Viking - but I am currently using Gravity Mp3 1.3 to play .mp3s on my 3650... I have a 256 MMC card so I stick about 2 albums on it before I go to the gym.

Well, I don't know much about these software stuffs. But I do know that you can 'upgrade' the s60 phones for just RM80 at any mobile phone shops.

yup, that's true...
if you want to use your mp3 into a ringtone - just convert it first into a wav file.
you can use a 3rd party software to do this... or you can use the pc suite.
:)
cheers!

You have 256 available on the MMC card and you stick like 2 albums of cd's? wow isn't that toooo little for a big memory card?
And also doesn't the low and mono sound of the mp3 files disturb you? (Because I heard it's really a pain)

I really wouldn't bother with MP3 on an S60 other than the N-Gage for music. It's SO bad I actually got rid of my 6600 as a result - and I tried everything to make it sound good (dual earpiece headsets, different software, etc.). If you want music get a music phone, the S60 MP3 software is no more than an expensive gimmick.

note, if you are using a phone to play mp3s, quality will be crap not because of software/mp3 but because of the output, so have no fear in reducing bitrate of your mp3s to 48kbps. also, i'm using ultramp3 on my 7610, as i don't really like using standard nokia gallery app.
jeff.
ps. can anyone explain to me what 'wideband' means in the context of what AMR or true tones are? i'm a bit.. lost~

@Deviant
I noticed you got a 6230, how do you like the phone, and how would you rate it?

Hi, yeah, it's great. Best phone I ever had.
* Nice manageable size
* Very good quality MP3 playback
* Plenty of functions
* Good screen
* Good loudspeaker (very loud, very low distortion)
* Bluetooth support
* Nice camera functions
* MMC slot (perhaps the smallest phone to support one).
I highly recommend you mod the pop-port connection on the HDS-3 though to be able to use your own headphones and get the best sound quality.
Until the 6260 comes out (essentially a 6230 running on Symbian with a clamshell form factor I much prefer), I'm keeping it.

I found that using that P800/P900 headset with S60 Nokia phones has bass and more clean sound as a resault.
Find software on yahoo groups.

I know this, becouse I had 3650, and used both Nokia HS-C2(I think that's the name of headset, anyway, it's Nokia headset used with 8310), and this SonyEricsson's headset, and I noticed how sound is much better on that one from SE. I even think that one from SE is a lot cheaper than Nokia's headset.
P.S. Why does he/her need to pay, when he/she can find that same thing for free???

Well, I've said it once and I'll say it again. MP3 on the any Symbian phone apart from the N-Gage is crap, but anyway - I'm here to help so here's a few links. You will have to pay for some software I suspect.
