Silly questions, but is this backwards compatible to existing s60 3rd edition, or does it only apply to new (yet to be announced) devices?

Yes i is, application developed for 3rd edition will work on 3rd ed fpII devices as well. .. .

But.. ..

As usually, there is no way to update OS, platform version or feature pack as well, all we can do is the firmware update

Wow that new active standby or whatever new name they're going to call it looks crazy...is it just me, or is Shortcut or Favorites missing on my E70?

What I don't understand is why did they release FP2 when FP1 hasn't even been released?!

some pics of the upcoming symbian os (http://www.fwrnando.com/blog/?p=101), looks like a more visually polished symbian 9.2, though what i am really looking forward to is the 9.5 sounds promising.
