I was wondering when we'll have a phone that's just basically a touchscreen

I think manufacturers were cagey about releasing a full touchscreen as many similar ones have had problems mainly with screen strength.
It looks quite neat ~ !

That is exciting actually...although how is text input achieved? Actually I just realized the 7700 and 7710 were basically touchscreens, but they did still rely on control buttons.

Yup you're right, it seems to be that prada phone.
It's nice mind - it's not trying too hard, just an elegant tiny black "box" seems, complimented by an unobtrusive silver banding.

nice one, but they should consider this as one of the hits if only they sold it to the market. from the look of it it lacks 3G - for video calls.... but its all good...
nice one...
hmm.. seems like it has a slight resemblance to a certain phone by apple.....
or vice versa
are touchscreen phones gona be the new thing for this year?

I think so.
Touchscreen phones have definitely been given a boost in publicity when that certain phone by Apple was introduced.... :D

LG Officially Unveils PRADA Phone
Thursday, 18 January 2007
LG Electronics and PRADA unveil the first completely touch screen mobile phone, dubbed PRADA Phone by LG (model name KE850).
The PRADA Phone by LG introduces the world’s first advanced touch interface which eliminates the conventional keypad making the overall usage experience a highly tactile one. An extra wide LCD screen maximizes visual impact, allowing the user to benefit from several key features of the phone, including the 2 megapixel camera featuring Schneider-Kreuznach lens, video player and document viewer capacity. Above all, these features contribute to the phone’s beautifully sleek and simplistic appearance.

The phone is ultra thin (just 12 mm), nonetheless it hosts an array of additional multimedia functions, including an MP3 player and a music multitasking function for messaging.

The PRADA Phone by LG will be available with prices starting from 600 Euros in mobile dealerships as well as selected PRADA stores in the UK, France, Germany and Italy as of late February, 2007, followed by countries in Asia such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore from late March, 2007. The Korean version of the phone is scheduled to launch in the second quarter of 2007.

That's definitely worth looking into. If someone REALLY wanted an iPhone, then they should get this to tide them over :p

I read that it uses the same plastic touchscreen technology as in the LG Chocolate series of phones (i.e. KG800, KG810, KE800) so the screen is not in fact exposed but is flush with the rest of the phone and has a plastic finish over it. Not sure if that's true but it'll definitely make it a lot harder/tougher than your regular touchscreen phones.
