KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- Nokia is set to remain as a well-known name in the global mobile phone market with its latest product development in the communication technology.
With the tagline "This is what computers has become", Nokia has launched the Nokia N95 recently, an all in one multimedia computer with integrated Global Positioning System (GPS) functionality and five megapixel camera.
"Nokia is becoming more than just a mobile phone. It is a convergence product with lots of multimedia features," Nokia's Malaysia & Brunei customer and market operations general manager, Andrew Cheong told Bernama recently.
Globally, he said the mobile phone is expected to grow by 10 percent and for Nokia, it has been growing in terms of volume and brand preference.
However, he was not able to give specific figures for Malaysia.
Specifically in Malaysia, he said the third generation (3G) phone sales has been on the uptrend and Nokia is also introducing the 3.5G enabled phones such as the N95.
"On an average, Malaysians change their mobile phones every 24 months," he said.
Globally, he said consumers are becoming more complex and segmented and Nokia offers a wide range of products that would suit the needs of an individual which includes the price and features.
Nokia phones are available at a price of RM260 to RM3,688 per unit, he said.
Cheong said Nokia would continue to move on the line of digitalisation and Internet content to maintain its position as a clear market leader.
"Nokia phones are both feature and technologically driven products and fits into whatever lifestyle of the consumer," he said.
Going forward, Cheong said Nokia would also be introducing slimmer phones in the first quarter of 2007.
"The Nokia 6300 is sure to be a hit here," he said.
Weighing 91 grams and with a thickness of 13.1mm, the Nokia 6300 offers modern features.
"Nokia 6300 is a much anticipated mid-range phone," he said.
"As a company, Nokia is very happy with the development of the telecommunication industry in Malaysia because we are also in the forefront of innovations. We are all moving in line with the trend," he added.
