We have been having a lot of problems with the forums.
I currently tend to think that they are unrelated to the other problems we are having with the site in general, as those appear to be hardware related.
Our forums ran fine when they were on their own box on another network, but that network was getting nailed by denial of service attacks that rendered it useless.
Since we were paying for that, too, we decided to move the two sites together to save money and get the forums on a better network.
So far it has been a nightmare.
You are likely to see random errors ont he forums and such. I'm trying to figure it out....
