I was wondering what are the differences in GSM 800/850/900/1800/1900? Are there any benefits of one over the other? Or are these just simple different frequencies?

As far as thr lower bands bo, they can penetrate buildings better, in my experience anyway. In the US 900/1900 are used by the top GMS's but the 850 has been used for Cingular's and AT&T's phones for a while now. :)

Thank you for the reply, but that doesn't really answer my question.

lower frequency can penetrate buildings better supposedly, high frewquency just as CPU's are faster, but advantageous?...it really depends on the carrier, as noted.

Any facts to that theory about low frequency?

The GSM1800 band can carry significantly more traffic, that is why it is used in high density areas - like Sydney and Melbourne.
Other than that the additional bands are just to allow GSM to be implemented in regions in which 900 and 1800 are not available (hence GSM850 and GSM1900).
