I'm a new member and I need some help on choosing a cellphone...

My wife just got a 2 year Verizon contract on Sat. and she got a LG white Chocolate and I got the LG VX 8300.

She doesn't like that the keypad is so sensitive, but I really like my phone so far but have been reading about somthing called UI?

I have also been reading reviews and this new phone seems like a significant upgrade and I wanted to know your opinion.

Thanks and love the forum so far!

Also do you know where I caould find any deals on USB cables and microsd cards for the phones?

Well, as far as the chocolate phone goes, I think that its one of the best looking phones on the market and yes, definately a sensitive phone seeing as how they are using touch instead of bottons. If you didn't know this already, there is a setting on the chocolate phones to adjust for how sensitive you would like the touch to be.

I'm ignorant about alot of the phones but if you are looking to get something besides the LG VX8300 (which i find bulky and a little on the dull side) then i can give you my opinion on the phones that i do know and like:

I am personaly a big fan of the motorola Razrs because of their sleek inovative design that is eye catching but also a very professional looking phone. the small size is great and you might hear others say that they break easily or that they arent good phones but ive had mine for two years and i have had no problems. they are also user friendly.

LG has just come out with the enV which is an updated version of the popular V. its got the querty keypad and its thinner and definately better looking than the old one.

I like the Samsung SCH-a930 too. its a good looking all black flip phone with the mp3 controls on the outside. its thin which is also a plus.

These are three completely different styles of phones and there are more of them but as i said i'm ignorant about most others from verizon and these are just a few that i like. I hope this helps you out some.

I'm not sure i know what phone you are talking about when you say a UI...does it have another name?

and about the usb cables...have you tried your local verizon store? they might have them.

UI is what the menu system is called...in Verizon's case, most of their phones excepting the Windows Mobile and Palm ones are using their proprietary menu system that makes it easier to switch between phones and such, but I really really hate how limited it makes the phone.

So is it basically a new menu format for their phones as compared to the basic Verizon menu setup?

If I understand what you're saying correctly, the basic Verizon menu setup is what I was referring to.

It runs on CDMA. Rumor has it that it is unlocked in that you can use it on another CDMA netowrk like Alltel or USCellular or such. I don't know if this still holds true since this was a while back a couple years ago in a thread.

VZW has made many changes recently (some better than others). I know they used to sell their phones unlocked; they locked the browser and customized/lobotomizes their phones, but otherwise I believe they were/are unlocked. Not that it matters much, because unlike the GSM world CDMA users don't have the flexibility of just popping in and out a SIM card; the carriers have to activate it and, in most cases, they do not. CDMA phones can use R-UIM cards (similar to SIM cards), but no American or Canadian carrier has implemented them yet (if ever).

I think the R-UIM cards are mainly in South Korea

Hi,

I'm a newbie to this forum Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but I don't know how to start a new post.
Here is my question, I have a LG vx8600 that I am using on a prepay account. The ring tones suck as you might have found out already, I have a couple of MP3's already downloaded into the phone and I'm trying to find a way in which I can use them as ring tone:BangHead: but I'm not having any success. If anyone here knows how to do this I would appreciate it if you can help me on this matter.

Verizon's got that phone on lockdown...only way you can use your own songs as ringtones is if you have an unlocked phone, which is only GSM, which Verizon isn't.
