I had been holding out for my firm to go to the Blackberry's with phones, but that's not going to happen anytime soon. Also, for security reasons, they will not let me hook my work email via a POP3 service, so I'm doomed to carry two devices. So, I'm going for a smaller blackberry and a phone I can put in my pocket, time to junk the v60i. I'm in the U.S., and thinking about the Siemens S56, or waiting for the SL56, the SE 610 (or waiting for the 600), or waiting for the Nokia 6600 (which I guess is not coming soon). Since I have the non-phone blackberry for email and am not into gaming, this just really needs to be a good, small phone. I'd like to sync with Outlook for about 500 contacts, IR or bluetooth would be good, a speakerphone would be good (I know the 616 does not have this feature). Open to any and all suggestions, thanks for a great site with good info.

I would say SL55, based on what you listed. Nokia 6100 would be nice, too.

Small, sync'able, IR ports.

Why not use the P800 (or to be 810) and the Appgate mobile VPN client? See http://www.my-symbian.com/uiq/applications/applications.php?faq=6&fldAuto=279

I use it myself to access email, intranet and CRM system securely.

How much better is the SL55 than the S55 (or 56 respectively, in the U.S)? From my admittedly uneducated review of the specs, it seems they are similar, it's a style, size and battery life trade off.

SL55 has a 4k color screen, S55 has a 256 color unit.

S55 has Bluetooth, SL55 does not.

SL55 is much smaller and lighter.

Otherwise, not much else that is different that I can think of.
