Seems this may run the obvious MS Win2003 mobile software and not smartphone :) Thats good to me... I sortof wish it wold be palm or symbian.... but - I love the look and the funciontality its potential has...... I currently have a CSK and its a beyotch when it comes to signal. My next is either the N7700 or the A630 :-D Anyone else share my lust for communicator type phones?

When Sony Clie UX-50 came out, I had wished that they will add a phone module and a external keypad, that will be my dream PDA/Phone combo device...

I like such design, but it must be a full PDA with phone features, like the Palm or WM2003 Phone Edition.

The new A630 most likely will use a phone OS, and it's also not attractive, so I probably have to keep waiting... :(

From what I have been reading, it will most likely not use the smartphone software - as an itaian site mentioned Win2003 mobile :)

Im still waiting on the new nokia communicator to replace the 9210 series and such.. hopefully an anouncement will come soon. I dont think the N7700 will be offered officially in the US :( as I was reading the series 90 developer forum on nokia.com. oh well.... maybe something else is afoot.

WM2003 Platform has a few edition, one of release is WM2003 for Smartphone, which is uses in Mio 8390, O2 XPhone and etc.

Another release is the WM2003 Phone Edition, full PDA with phone features.

"176 x 220 pixels, 8 lines" - this screen size is uses by the WM2003 for Smartphone. Also, WM2003 Phone Edition usually doesn't count by lines because it operate mainly in PDA mode.

"Memory Numbers in phone 1000, 5 MB shared memory" - this figures suggest that it may not even uses WM2003 for Smartphone.

Also, take note that there is no Infrared... :(

From the look and the specification, A630 should be a smartphone, probably WM2003 based.

PS: The specification is taken from the 1st link given in the initial post.

"Win2003 mobile " was renamed that in 2003 and they dropped the mobile edition monker. Win mobikle 2003 means the phone edition.

Moto also uses the linux platform now that they arent aprt of symbian.... so the OS choice could by either at this point. WIth the KB, Im thinking absolutely no smartphone software for this - its stripped down capbilities dont really need a KB... well for me anyway. Id like to see symbian or win2003 mobile.. we'll see soon enough I hope. I gotta have a kb anyhoo :)

The name Windows Mobile was announed in 2003 to group their mobiles releases. Currently, there is 4 edition - Pocket PC, Pocket PC Phone Edition, Smartphone and Portable Media Centers.

Windows Mobile 2003 is frequently uses a short form for Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC, and Windows Mobile 2003 Phone Edition is uses a short form for Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC Phone Edition.

See http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/default.mspx for the detail.

I agree with you about the KB, Motorola should takes advantage of it and uses a more capable OS rather than just using it for Text Messaging with a smartphone OS.

Aaah correct, I think I still se the phone edition thing, because of the ORginal o2 device up there, that was recently able to be upgraded to the 2003 version. Im really statring to like the design of the moto again... my first was the orginal startac :) Thoght his is insane. Goodbye sidekick! :D
