View Full Version : N70 Charger Socket BROKE!!!

I just wanted to give everyone a word of warning...

The new small charging pins Nokia use, as everyone here already knows, are very fragile. But so are the charging SOCKETS!!!

I have a N70, and over the past year, the pin of the charger has gotten tweaked and bent a bit. You know what Im talking about if you have one of these new nokias. All 3 of my chargers (car, home, work) are tweaked. Just a little bent, still works just fine, but bent.

Well, after using bent chargers for the past couple of months, what do you, the INTERNAL PIN of the socket (phone), broke from the socket and lodged itself in the female end of the charger pin. :merror:

This in effect, turns the phone quickly into a brick. Theres no way to charge it anymore. You have to REPLACE the damn socket. And to do that, you have to disassemble the phone, and, i assume, have to solder in a new socket. Which I dont even know how/where to buy. Just a huge pain!

I live in the US, bought the N70 online, and because of this, was without warranty (which i didnt know, but is a rant for another post) Cost me 80 bucks to make my phone usable again.

I said all that to say this:
1.) The new, tinytiny charger pins SUCK!
2.) If youre using a slightly bent charger, STOP! It will break your phone sooner or later.

I've used N70 for almost a year and just got a N73 few days ago .Haven't had this problem however I have 2 batteries and use a desktop charger so therefore the charger is always plugged into the desktop charger.

maybe invest on a desktop charger?

I'm sorry it happened to you! But you could have gotten a desktop charger or even just using your old S60 phones that use the BL-5C battery. I almost never have my E70 charged to the wall because I use my Tracfone Nokia 1100 from eBay as my charger. Granted I still use it when I forgot to charge my spare batteries or when I'm on a call and my E70's crying for power, but in general, I don't normally plug it in.

The average user shouldn't be required to swap battery/memory card/sim card on an average basis. :icon_confused:

Like most electronics, cars or other consumer goods, what happens to one can happen to hundreds or thousands. Thanks for letting everyone know.
