Nokia 3200

Integrated camera, radio, polyphonic ringtones, calendar and java applications would probably make this another hot selling phone. Wish they would improve the keypad though.

I'm wondering what the phone would look like without the paper insert. Maybe it would look better that way, and not so.....busy, dizzy, psychedelic.

Could mobile burn please post a picture of the phone without the paper insert? I'm really curious as to how it would look completely transparent.

This would probably be the perfect phone for me as it has all the features I'm looking for in a phone, if only it had the casing of say the Nokia 6610 or Nokia 6100. What it really lacks is a sensible, easy to use keypad ( I have never used the 3200 keypad and I am only assuming that it would have a tacky feel to it based on its appearance. I could be wrong though).

Any comments or insights, fellow mobile enthusiasts?

No, we can't. We haven't physically seen the phone yet. Those photos were just the official press photos.

The handset isn't actually available yet. Hopefully we will be able to get one to test reasonably soon. Just wish that there were some working EDGE networks around that we could test the high-speed data on.

i read elsewhere and it said that Nokia 3200 is also capable to play mp3 music because it has MultiMediaCard (MMC) support. is it confirm? thx

I've done a test on the 3200, and concluded that it's basicly a light-version of the 7250i. The difference is that the 7250i has more memory, better ergonomic design and has volume-controls on the side. The 3200 has in addition a built-in flashlight, SE look-a-like menu option, image-editing (scale, add text, add clip-art ect) and you can also add a picture to 50 contacts stored in the phonebook. This means that it will show you a picture of the person that is calling you.

You get 3 different paper-covers to insert into the plastic cover. You also get 10 blank ones for you to paint, print or whatever on and insert into the cover. You also get the HS-5 and a hand-strap.

The keypad design isn't that bad actually. To this day I have never entered a number wrong. But writing SMS needs some time to get used too as your fingers "memory" cant find the letters in the "right" place.

Woohooooo... I got Nokia 3200 two days ago! It is a really great, trendy phone with all what I want on a mobile phone in a realy reasoable price!
Everything is functioning just great and at a really good speed, not like 8310 where everything needs some time to open!
The keypad design is not as complicated as it seems to be... you need a couple of days to get used to it and that's it... for me the problem was the "clear" button since I was used to to "C" button on my old phone(Nokia 3330)! The camera is absolutely great... doesn't take pro pictures but it's better compared to a 7250/7250i phone... the functions of the camera are: Standard Photo, Portrait Photo, Night Photo and Self-Timer which has the above options and gives you 10 second to take a picture of yourself!
I am really satisfied with the phone... light, trendy, easy-to-use, camera and all those necessary technologies all in one budget phone!
For me the only bad thing is the memory... it's only 1 MB which doesn't give you the chance to download anything you want freely like in 7250i... it doesn't even has the ability to update the memory... the good thing tough is that the size of the applications and pictures are so small that you don't need to be stressed out...
I recommend it to all of you!

If Nokia had equipped this model with keypad similar to that of the 6610 or the 6100, the 3200 would have been another top seller for nokia.

It has everything an ordinary mobile phone user would need, too bad the packaging is less than stellar ( I must admit though, the ones with dark colored inserts don't look too shaby).

Sorry, I just don't have the time or the patience to re-learn keypad usage for this model.

I just can't believe Nokia are so damn tightfisted with internal memory (especially on phones with no expansion, it's just a sin...) and to a lesser extent TFT displays.

In my mind, this lack of memory writes off the 3200 as doing anything useful (it has what? Like 1mb RAM?). Maybe Samsung aren't so reliable (my E700 lasted 10 days...) but at least they equipped it with a VGA camera and 9mb RAM to back it up. Shame, cos Nokia really really could've been onto a winner if only they put a little thought into their phones from time to time - as I've said before there is always at least one glaringly obvious omission/oversight in every Nokia.

I have been using it since the last three months and feel as if its one of the best phones which I ever got. Its damn fast and well it does lack camera quality but is great whatsoever as the photos look decent enough on the pc and well I have posted a few pic of it without the insert sorry as i dont have a digi cam I could not do anything else. I will give them to you just send me your email address.

Anyways this thing about the keypad is over hyped I feel its really fast right up there with 3310, 6210 and 7250 once you get used to it. Its really not that a big deal. Memory is indeed a prob. But as someone already told the appz are small.

Its loudspeaker is really cool and the tones and radio are too good so is the menu its really good and fast.

I saw one with a dark paper insert, "Lord of the Rings" theme. Despite my reservations towards complex, attention grabbing covers, I must admit this one looked quite good.

Will nokia release say a 3220 with a standard keypad similar to the 3660 ( the 3650 with a better keypad)?

I dont think you should curse the keypad. It is really good and works out fine for me and also looks really cool. But some friends of mine just dont get it sms is a long shot they cant even dial a number!

Please. The 3200 keypad isn't THAT bad, and isn't THAT confusing. It's so much nearer to a 'normal' keypad, than the 3650, but I wouldn't call it a totally different design like the 3650. It is quite confusing though...but you get used to it.....after 10 minutes. :D... That's just my opinion though.

It was just like everyone whinging about the 7210 keypad, which to be fair wasn't that bad.

The actual hardware keys are arranged in a normal way (just like the 7210 was) so you could probably find an aftermarket cover to fit on which give you 'normal' keys if it's that bad. Personally I doubt it would bother me *that* much - the lack of memory would... but that is another story...

I love that phone too and the removable cover thing is cool but it tends to get scratched and is a little fragile. Also if you have any great links for fan sites please tell me.

You do that and spoil your phone.
Let it squeak a little it doesnt matter.
I ve dropped it from my bike and from my hand but it still runs fine it had a little problem with keypad lights but got it fixed.

I got a really neat cover for it from a nokia brochure just check for them at your local store inside the brochure theres a cutout!

Sounds like you have had a great time with the phone.
That's good. Has that impression stayed?
I have heard that there are problems with memory.
That if you assign a picture to a contact, then delete the picture that portion of the memory is lost to you.
Has anyone noticed this?
I have also heard that the 16?-chord polyphonic sounds terrible???

If there are problems, then they'll be ironed out soon enough with free firmware updates I imagine. The phone is very lacking in memory though which is a really big shame and sore point for that phone.

I'm not even sure this phone has 16-channel polyphony, where did you get that info from? I'm pretty sure like all the older series 40 phones, it only has 4-channel (the exception being some specialist phones like the 3300) and either way, 4-channel is incredibly poor - don't expect anything even vaguely complex from it - the actual instrument reproduction on series 40 isn't all that hot either, best sound comes from Samsungs with Yamaha sound chipsets.

i think the 3200 is quite a nice phone.. i bought one about two weeks ago, but never got the chance to use it properly, the flashlight is pretty bright, i was impressed!! anyway, i just sold it 2 days ago!!
