Hi guys, got a weird problem w/ my 7610 that i havent seen/read anyone having yet...
seems that the buttons from 4 to #, i.e 456789*0#, are not working properly ....

this means that i have locked it (by pressing the button next to "call" and then * ) and i can not unlock it....or turn it off using the turn off key

I have turned it off by taking out the battery and tried the reset thing:
[call/green+3+*+turn on ] but asks me to put my pin code...i've tried it w/o the sim card and/or the memory card but no luck....is there a trick to doing this?

had this problem a month ago and this reset formula worked n was working fine, after i dropped it slightly and did the problem again ....any ideas anyone out there?

oh, when someone calls me, i can answer the call and it's the only time i can access the phone, but the buttons i mention above still dont work...

FYI these 4 to# buttons do other things like i press 4 and tries to send msg or call a number....(when i get access when called)

This is long but wanted to give u full idea on issue, need help w this ...please....

very dissappointed in nokia, always used to get a nokia but will probably not get 1 next time

Do the keys work when you remove the cover?

My 7610 used to bug the heck out of me when the keys just stop functioning. It turned out that the keypad was wearing out a bit and was fixed by getting a new one.

I don't think it would be a fair assumption to base the failure of any manufacturer on one malfunctioning handset. Escpecially if its not a common defect.

guys thnx for the responses....

since i wrote the last msg, the phone would sometimes work properly, then do the problems again...

i finally took it to a friend who fixes phones, and they took it apart, cleaned really well inside the areas where the keypad touches the button areas, and also they installed an updated version of the software on it

JOSERAM i think u had a point w/ ur comment thnx....

They told me that many problems on these phones come from files u can download on it like games, or files through bluetooth etc...

waptrick i think it's fixable but u should take it somewhere to get it checked

I had a similar problem - the '*' and ) buttons sometimes required a couple of more presses to get going. It was under warranty so I gave it to Nokia and they returned it dead and non-repairable!!! I am still getting them to try and honour their warranty, let's see...

I had my 7610 and eventually wore out the buttons like you did. Replacing the keypad didn't fix it, the actual electronic membrane itself was damaged. I think I played too many Gameboy games.. :) $40 on Ebay for a new membrane and it was good as new. You just need to pickup a torx screwdriver and find a guide (or just do it yourself if your handy).

After my 7610 membrane wore out I realized that phones aren't really meant for lots of fast action game playing..

Yeah, but I really do not have the time and patience for the DIY stuff. In India, ebay is not so easy. The engineer now says bluetooth, and display also problems. It IS under warranty and Nokia ought to honour their damn warranty. I am still waiting for their confirmation.
