N80 - Branding / Unlocking / Software Update Question

Okay, my N80 is Orange branded and due to software issues they no longer supply the N80 on their website. So, I want to get the Orange firmware off the phone.

Nokia's software update won't do it because the phone is branded.

If I take it to a service centre (Carphone Warehouse?) I'm guessing they will only re-apply the Orange software. Right?

I've now applied for an unlock code for the phone from Orange. When it's unlocked, will any of the above be easier?

Will I be able to use the Nokia Software Update? If its unlocked will I be abl eto get an unbranded firmware from CPW?

Anyone? Help? Please? :(

I have the orange branded N80

Ive just done the nokia software update and its running much quicker.

I also found that once the memory card was wiped it ran a lot better.

My N80 battery life doesnt last 6hrs even if charged for 12 hrs straight.

My mate has an Orange branded N80 and a couple of weeks ago we found some debranded firmware and withing 20 minutes of making a brew and having a look on how to do it we had a non-branded firmware on his phone. Then he connected it to the Nokia updater thing and voila, latest firmware. I'm gonna do this with my out of date N70 that is running 3's version of the firmware.

Wish I could remember, I need to find the site again coz I know they have the N70 firmware on there. :(

But at the end of the day my N70 is going to be made redundant come the end of the week as I have an Imate Jam 2 coming.

try the nokia software updater ver.4 firmware is up for n80 orange. i done mine last month sometime.

OK interesting post, i would really like to flash my N73 to a nokia generic version but upon my first attempt it failed, didn't power up, had to send it to service & repair, its working now but back with the original 3 firmware.

Could you please explain what this gsm-magic is, in detail if possible?
Also, if anyone else has a failed flash & the N73 becomes as useful as a paperweight. Any suggestions on what to do next, apart from grovel to nokia?
