hi there...
For N73 owners; have you ever had a joystick problem? I've read in other forums, and in fact - 2 of my friends (who has N73's) verifies this, that the joystick of their N73's came off! I examined the phone and I think it's not in the joystick itself - but rather the cover that attaches the stick to the phone is weak.
How do you solve this? Do you just superglue the stick back on?
Pls advice.
The N73 has to have one of the most solid feeling joysticks I've used, I have never had a problem with mine, and it isn't loose at all.

thanks brad.
umm, any other opinions out there?
just today, I saw another n73 loose its stick... making me like it less, and liking the D-pad more.

Touch wood (seem to have my palm firmly against timber alot when I talk about the N73) mine hasn't had this problem.
Although it is annoying when my finger has a little perspiration, I can no longer use the joystick. Its like the puck of an airhockey game, just effortlessly glides over like i hadn't touched it at all.
I'm starting to miss the d-pad too. I'd prefer the 7650's ball roller though.
The whole ensemble is much more of a pain to use since I covered it with a crystal case (Although, surprising that it doesn't change the appearance much, unlike other phones - the front is almost invisible).
Maybe with the silicone casing that covers the keypad - maybe that might improve it a little? Anyone tried?

so you guys say touch on wood huh? knock on wood...
anyway, thats funny cause i always slide my finger nail under the joystick and play around with it. maybe i should stop lol

yup works ok,but just put a a drop of glue in the cover, hold the mobile facing downwards and only then put on the cover, so that the glue does not ruin the joystick mechanism.

thats exactly what happened to my n73. after using those silicon jackets after a few days my joystick cover suddenly became loose and just fell off. i tried calling the nokia service center in my country since my phone was under warranty but unfortunately they didnt have parts available for this particular unit. so i decided to glue the cap on since id be having major problems if the cover suddenly falls off and gets lost. the glue works but now my joystick kinda shakes, it feels loose.

after reading this thread, i am a bit wary about my phone's joystick. i noticed that it's not as stable as those from other phones that i have tried before like the k750i.
is this a common issue on this phone? i fear that mine would suddenly fall off one day...

I have a fairly new N73 - the joystick is fully functional still but it got loose awful fast... not enough to be that annoying though.
I prefer it over D-pads... I like it how you can use it and hardly move your thumb at all compared to a D-pad, feels faster. If I get sweaty hands though I have to push it from the sides to move it in a direction - very slippery.

Yeah, my joystick came off after about 3 weeks and I barely used the phone because I hadn't gotten service for it yet. I was switching from Verizon to Cingular. Unfortunately I don't know what happened to the cover and don't Nokia told me it's not under US warranty and there is no place in the States I can send this thing for repairs because it hasn't been released yet. So I'm SOL it appears.

Mine finally fell off (owned the phone about 6 months). I was traveling and I can't find it.. now I'm using a short black stump to navigate.. :(
I hope buying a new joystick for $20 and using glue will take care of it....

Like I said, I lost the cover.
But I finally received a new one which came through Hong Kong only to find the black nub of the joystick is mis-shaped so the new cover doesn't even fit on there, no hope of gluing it back on.

I'm using a brand new N73 music edition. but so far no problem with the joystick. But i have a question which is not directly regarding this topic. Is the N73 (standard or music) casing available in the market anywhere in the world?
errr...my joy stick fell off..kinda..is it supposed to be the whole thing that falls off or is it just the silver..cuz when mine doenst hv the joy stick cover thing i cant use it...anyone? help? lol

Well for anyone else who loses the joystick:

Probably a better idea to share the cost with others than buying the joytick + cover for the same price..

A couple more tasty bits for this thread..
- Even with a BRAND NEW N73, the joystick will have some play. This does not mean the joystick cap is loose, the joystick attached to the circuitboard below the cap is this way by design.
- I also received a new joystick cap that didn't seem to fit. The nub looked round, the joystick cap looks square. But when you push it on with some force, it goes on. In my case, the nub looked round but it was actually some junk or something. After removing the stick the nub was very square
- The new cap goes on incredibly snugly. It doesn't appear to need super glue, but I'll put it on as insurance.
My N73 looks nice again. :toothy4:

My joustick button fell off after 3 months. I sent it back to 3 expecting it to be fixed under warrenty but they claimed it was my fault and wanted £30 to repair it, they did take the time to explain that if i had their insurance it would be £50 excess!
This was the second time it fell off as the first time i used super glue.
My problem was i lost the button and after a couple of months without it i was almost ready to pay the £30. Then a search on a well know auction site produced a replacement (buy one get one free) for 99p (UK) This has now been glued on and i'm loving my phone again.
The N73 rocks even more than before with a firmware upgrade too!
Hope this does not break any rules but wish someone had told me about it 2 months ago!
