Last November, while visiting the Philippines, I had bought a Nokia 6600, unlocked. I brought it here in New York and popped in my AT&T sim card (contract plan with mMode). But alas, although I had downloaded the OTA settings for GPRS & MMS, it wouldn't work. I couldn't go to the mMode homepage on my cellphone, nor could I send/receive MMS messages. I could make calls and send/receive text messages though. So then I proceeded to call AT&T. They told me that because the phone didn't come from their company, I wouldn't be able to use those features on my phone. Is there anyway I could get around this? I know phone carriers are saying there's no way to unlock phones that they distribute, but hey, people do it everyday. I'm planning to buy the Nokia 6230 from Asia (will it be available in the U.S., by the way, preferable AT&T?) when it comes out, but I 'm a little skeptical because of the GPRS/MMS issue with AT&T. I'm actually considering getting one of their phones, but I don't really want to. Clearly the 6600 is better than any of their phones. Please help!
