hey guy.. just got one question... this guy told me earlier today that the n6220 operates on version 2 (something to do with WAP) and that u cannot use GPRS on it in newzealand because they dont support it yet.... is this true???
i went on the vodafoneNZ site and they have the tcip/ip settings which i used to configure my phone but GPRS still doesnt work...

i wanna get a 6230, but im not going to if it will have the same problem..
The 6220 is the first Nokia phone to support EDGE which, in simple terms, is a speed upgrade to GPRS. This does not, however, mean that the 6220 can't use GPRS. Just ask the Vodafone phone monkeys to send you the details for the Nokia 7250. They are essentially the same phone internally and your 6220 will be able to use GPRS fine using those settings.

Yep, we don't have EDGE here in Singapore and the 6220 runs fine on GPRS

The thing is that 6220 doesn't support WAP stack, but TCP/IP stack. This means that the operator needs to update their WAP gateways to support TCP/IP. That shouldn't be a big problem for the operator to do, since it's only a software upgrade to the existing WAP GW.

There's no fault in 6220, your operator just lags behind in technology by not providing TCP/IP support for it's customers. TCP/IP is quite new in mobiles, so it takes some time to get everything in order. Of course, operators should have been more active in this case. And yes, 6230 also uses TCP/IP.
A good trick with any WAP2.0 phones is to make an internet access point. An example is:
Homepage: wap.yahoo.com (or your favorite page)
Proxies: disable
Bearer settings ->
GPRS access point: internet
leave everything else as the default. This has worked with most operators I've tried.
