Hi all,

Need some help here to make a choice. Currently own a Nokia E61 and then on looking for a second multimedia centric device.. Narrowed it down to the two hereunder and then would appreciate you guys input.

* W810i + 512MB Memory Stick + Sony Ericsson desktop speaker stand
OR
* K800i

Basically for better than average mp3 quality, loud volume and robust headset and then better than average cam too. The price for both is almost the same when on contract, though as you can see, the W810i has the better bundle delivered. Read here that the mp3 player on the W810 is better?, though is sound quality the same? .. What do you guys think. Thanks!

sound quality is no way the same. w810 > k800 in music

but k800 > w810 for camera

what do you need more. music or camera? its kinda give and take, the w810 is extremely good with music, but has a good camera. the k800 has an extremely good camera but alright mp3 player. if you got a large M2 card for the k800, and bought the hpm 70 for it it should be good.

hmmm, that sure is nasty! .. I thought for one that all SEs came with the hpm70!.. what does the K800i come bundled with? if you know..
Otherwise, Id go for more camera, but how less of the music would I be settling for when foregoing the W810! ? .. is it the sound quality or the player app?

if im not mistaken the sound quality for both phones should be the same as they both use the same on board software of the walkman version1... the new walkman version 2 is on the new later moddels however on the w810 you get a 3.5mm which could be useful if you want to change headsets etc.:rolleyes:

I'm getting the k800i soon for the extremely good camera, I dont see the use in music on a phone, when there is little storage space you have to buy a expensive big memory card. I use the iPod for music, way better quality than any phone, plus mass strorage space

it boils completely down to what your going to use it for.

The W810i is a WALKMAN phone!!!! So what do you think that means lads?! Yes thats right.. a fully glorified mp3 player. Thats why for the adverts for it you always see it associated with music.
But with the K800i, you always see it featured with good quality camera shots etc.

Go figure.

That works as far as branding goes, not further up so after reading up on the music capabilities of the K800 vs the W810. Only caveat being the K800i's lack of megabass, and ofcourse absence of that orangy scheme of all things, and otherwise it lives up with the exact same music player as the W810 so again, its a call it what we will and buy it they like that shall scheme of capitalism.

Coming from my two cents, they could just as well slapped on the walkman logo on the k800, had they bundled a 512MB micro card, and hmp-60 headphones with.. what say you.

it coems with the same normal headset like the k750 came with. forgot the name of it. its just standard SE earphones.

otherwise it lives up with the exact same music player as the W810 so again

Walkman music players usually have more settings than non-Walkman players. But on the other hand, the video player of K800 is much more capable than the one on W810.

i havent found any difference in sound quality between those two phones. but the W810 has walkman features and the K800 has walkman like features. overall the K800 is far superior than the W810.

All,

Soon after I bought my K800i, I discovered that the sound quality I get from the media player is really bad. Compared to my good old K750i, the sound quality is far inferior. The sound from mp3 files, from voice calls and from the RDS radio is quieter and lacks all bass frequencies.
I've tried listening using the originally provided cheapo earphones. Then I bought the HMP-70 model, but that didn't help. Even if I hook up a pair of professional headphones in the HMP-70's minijack, sound quality stays hopelessly bad.

In general, Stereo Widening doesn't do sound quality any good.
With original headphones: washed-out, no mid and bass, heavy singing around.
With HMP-70 and original earphones: washed-out, no mid and bass, heavy singing around, like flanging.
With HMP-70 and quality earphones: low volume, not enough mid and bass, a bit of singing around.
With HMP-70 connected to stereo: full high-mid-bass sound, albeit somewhat 'wobly'.
With HBH-DS970 earphones: good high-mid-bass sound.

Upgrading firmware to lastest version did not change sound reproduction.
