One-Off Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina
Text & Photos courtesy Pininfarina S.p.A., 07-31-2006
A dream comes true
The Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina will debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elégance. The car is a one-off commissioned by James Glickenhaus, the American collector with a yen for the legendary racing cars of the Sixties.
“This project – comments Andrea Pininfarina, Pininfarina S.p.A. Chairman and CEO - represents an exciting challenge, i.e. trying to meet the Customer’s requests in the best way possible without deteriorating the company’s approach based on stylishness and innovation”.
The car has been designed, engineered and built entirely by Pininfarina, bringing to life something that, just a few months earlier, was just a dream and creating a sort of symbiosis between the customer and Pininfarina along the path leading to definition of this astonishing model. Starting from a Ferrari Enzo, the aim was to produce a sole vehicle inspired by sport racing cars with extreme vocations: not just a show-car but a vehicle to be enjoyed on the road.

There looks like no other wheel screws - just one! Is that the same as what they use in racing cars? Wow! I love the way it looks, aerodynamic chins and that sexy looking body, I wonder how much gas mileage it gets? Hahahaha...

Lol you think it looks like a couple of ship horns on the back ! with the Honda civic triangular pipes and bespoke tail pipes you would expect something special...

Looks nice, though I think there's too many holes. There's a big one in front, one in each door, then another one under each door, then another large one at the back. It looks a little flimsy now because of all those vents/intakes.

I already saw this from my Car and Driver magazine. I'm quite unimpressed by it to be perfectly honest. They took a perfectly good Enzo and then gave it this 80s styling! I guess the back isn't so bad, but the sides and front, especially the wheels, are so unimaginative!
Btw, is the white just a cover or something? Because in the article it's red and plus you can see red under the white a little.

I guess the current owner won't have to worry about you grabbing another one just like it at more than $2.5M.
A 1 of 1 custom built Ferrari?? I do believe that we will be seeing more on this one. Cars like that tend to become VERY VERY valuable.
0-60 in 3.5 seconds??- Who cares about the wheels - I'll take a blue one.:D

That is like so cool!!! Dont care much about its performance, it's a given that all Ferraris are "fast"... but the way it looks, wow! I could just imagine it in all black! It'll like standout from everything on the road. :D

I think the Enzo will stand out in and of itself anyways;)
It was aggravating the other day I saw a 360M or an F430 and my dad and sister were in disbelief cause they said it didn't look like one because it doesn't have the old style Ferrari design...just annoyed me because of the ignorance.

Aston's will forever have my heart. :p
I'm not much a fan of ferrari's, couple of their model's I like though.
I'd say my two favourite cars atm are the Aston Vanquish S, and the Bugatti Veyron, the Veyron partly because it looks cool and partly because it's so unique.

while i agree with what stephanie says about it being unique... what cct says a about taking a perfectly good enzo and ruining it with 80s styling ( which probably has big joe jumpin up and down since its all about the 80s...i smell a hoff joke coming soon) is so true .

Ruining it? ARE YOU KIDDING?.
A factory Ferarri custom configuration..that thing is PRICELESS.
Just wait 20 years and see what happens......
There are plenty of Enzos running around, anyone who has $1.5M us laying around can have 1 or 2 or 3 of them. :)
This thing is a one of a kind, factory prepared, custom Pininfarina designed, full blown race car. Magnificent in my opinion.
Park it next to your all original Enzo - have 1 of each.

Just because it's unique and expensive doesn't mean it's beautiful.
Take for instance:

Are you guys really saying that custom Ferrari is ugly?
WOW, I think it is absolutly outrageous - Very Sexy Car - great lines.
It's body style is very similar to the Mclaren F, or the new Porsche GT, or the Bugatti race car. It looks like an Formula1 car, designed for the street. I love it.:icon_pray:
It is everythig radical that the Enzo is not. Love the exhaust, V12 Engine under glass. WOW.
That mini van thing is ugly. The Ferarri is gorgeous.
Wouldn't mind having the Enzo.
I should have grabbed one when they were only $850K :)
IMO - who cares how much it costs

Yep, it's the same bubble cockpit alright, but as far as the looks concerned. The one on the ferrari looked far sexier and aggressive than the jetson ones. But it's more of functionality.. You get the least amount of aerodynamic drag for the given 'feel' and view of the road compared to conventional 'roof/pillar' design, both of which are very important to have in a race car.. ..Actually, kinda same reason why jet fighters use bubble cockpits as well.
This isn't the prettiest supercar around it goes behind F50, maclaren and the like IMO. But by the looks of it, it will seem to have efficient handling, and low drag that's all I can say. I wouldn't mind racing one in SCCA or anything similar :D

The other cars you compared it to are, imho, infinitely better than this P4/5 monstrosity. I must admit, I do LOVE the back, but the profile and front are just so unelegant! This I believe trumps it looks wise:
http://www.cartype.com/images/thumbs/1/koenigsegg-cc2000_frontside.jpg
I realize the bubble cockpit is quite functional, but I can't get over how corny and whimsical it looks. This is afterall a 4 million dollar car, not some little kid's drawing of his daddy's car.

The more I look at that little green Mercedes, The more it grows on me.
Beauty is in the eye... well you know. ;)
Look how popular the Scion, or the PT-loser got???
Or what about the Honda Del-slow.
The only thing that could make that Ferarri any better, is if Stephanie was along for the ride. :laughing5:

I don't have any criticisms for this car, I've attempted transportation design and there aren't many people on the planet who can do it well.

Now that you mentioned it - I have to agree, it does look a lot like the McLaren. This got me curious - I wonder which one will be faster? :D The mclaren, as I understood it, was bred from a race car - which would explain that powerful engine. Is this ferrari P4/5 bred from a race car too? I think only the Testarossa was, am I correct?

Mclaren for sure, the ferrari one is from an enzo, while the mclaren is a 'pure' bred racecar(minus the electronics). But if the modified ferrari had an indestructible carbon fiber chassis and passenger cage like mclaren did, we won't be sure.

@problematic The fastest car, that's not a complicated race car (i.e. you can just stick a key in and turn it on) I think is still the Veyron, and that wasn't build on a racecar I don't think, just from scratch, so being based on a racecar doesn't nessecairly give a street legal car the edge. ;)

Urgh. Thats all I have to say to that.
That and, if I was given one as a present, I'd still sell it, its a Ferrari.

This is apparently the Mustang Carcomptoy was talking about:

Only available 2006 Shelby GT-H sells for $250,000
Seems nostalgia still reigns supreme these days as Ford has reintroduced the Shelby Hertz car that debuted in 1965.
To commemorate the now legendary GT350H cars, Ford made 500 black-and-gold 2006 Mustangs for Hertz as rental cars. Hertz bought 499 of them and only one was made available to the public.

The Veyron wasn't known for it's handling and reliability so it would give the lead to a ferrari or mclaren or porsche in an f1 race track or a road track(like what we see everyday). It can only rule on one thing, straight, and wide roads(there are only few like this in the world where 300+ kph is legal) but it would be a loser in most roads, not much of an edge I think.. I was more like a 'world speed record car' like rocket cars than actual race car.

It was only an example, and I didn't necessarily that specific GT-H, especially since you can't buy it. It's just that someone was just saying how irresistable a man in a P4/5, but what I was trying to point out that in any sporty car any man would bring attention to himself.

I'm glad there no enzo's in my place, Philippines. Usually, when we have very expensive cars around, the driver have a gun and a very bad temper and you'd not want to smoke their ferrari or porsche with your fiat or mitsubishi :D
