View Full Version : nokia 7600 US?
hello--
stupid question, but can the nokia 7600 be used on a US GSM carrier? it says it conforms to WCDMA, and i was a little unsure on what that is? is that like Sprint's CDMA network?
thanks a lot,
dio

i think the wcdma is backwards compatible with the regular cdma. who knows - but if its working on the pcs/1900 then it should be fine. I would be curious to know as well.
7600 is WCDMA/GSM 900/1800 as far as i know WCDMA phones won't work on CDMA, someome correct me if i'm wrong.
WCDMA phones won't work on CDMA.
Since the 7600 is dualband it won't be coming to the US.
I *should* have one in the next couple of weeks though. :)

Had an opportunity to lay my hands on one yesterday......yes its available in mumbai,India.....
The shape though wierd its pretty manageable but the buttons are very badly placed you have to be careful while pressing them as u might endup pressing 4 instead of 3.....
The Ui gfx are BAD............series 40 sux..............
the screen also as not even as bright as 3650 despite the 65k color display
was so unimpressed by it that i didnt even check the camera
Sid let us know how u find it.....for me its a complete no no

dunno if the 7600 u saw had the latest software/hardware. i had a 3650 before and i must say that the 7600's display had no dead pixels or flickering whatsoever, not the slightest. My old 3650 changes color sometimes as there's pixelation. No issues for 7600 and I'm happy wif it, though i wish there's brightness control.
The UI is fantastic, it's almost smartphone-like and the icons are nice. I understand that the first version had a UI similar to 7250i but now 7600 has it's own UI. Actually what sets a Series 40 and Series 60 now seems that the latter has expansion mem, larger screen and different apps.
As for the keypad, io adapted to it much better than 3650 which till the day I sold it, still didnt master. I am typing as fast on my 7600 as normal keypadded phones. Need to give it some time, definitely less than 3650.
Here's my lowdown on the phone:
Good:
1. Supports picture caller ID and email client for POP/IMAP... as opposed to mobilereview preview.
2. 65K screen is big and bright, better than expected. Under sunlight it is fully viewable, unlike the SE T610... as opposed to mobilereview preview.
3. Pic resolution/quality is better than expected; outdoor shots fair slightly better than indoor ones.
4. Video capture is suprisingly smooth and sound in sync; max capture 2.5 mins... as opposed to mobilereview preview.
5. Superb stereo sound from MP3- and ACC-encoded files--Nokia Audio Manager encodes .aac files at mobile-optimized bitrate and they are small in size: A 3.5-minute song = approx. 1.7MB and the result is actually quite good either played through the speaker or with the headset provided; crisp sounds + good bass!
6. Nice menu and interface (like Symbian phones); icons are nice and not the mobilereview preview.
7. Grid menu extends to submenus, choice of list and list with icon views, too.
8. OS is very stable and no hangs or auto-restarts.
9. Good grip.
10. Ease of connection to PC via USB cable or Bluetooth (both tested).
11. PC Suite 5.7 is extensive.
12. Keypad easier to adapt to than the N3650 => Best used with two hands like gamepad.
13. Extensive package includes strap, USB cable, pouch and earpiece.
Not so good:
1. Cannot customize left selection key and the 4-way scroll key.
2. Cannot adjust contrast for phone as a whole, only individual pictures/videos can adjust contrast.
3. Keypad needs getting used to.
4. No picture schemes like N6600 or SE T610.
5. Annoying ascending ringtone problem for normal ringing alert => same problem as SE T610.
6. Very slight movement causes picture taken to be blurred => requires very steady hands.
7. Camera lens protrudes, so touches any surface easily.
Does the 7600 have a memory slot?
