Ha ha I know you're going to kick my ass for this, but had to do it as I finally got one today. So was doing some hunting online. Found some nice links like http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/361257

But now lets get on with it! What the hell is wrong with sony? Why are they pricing UMD's like that? Have they gone kwazy.I had to go over my budget because I am not going to just pick up a PSP without any games! The game "Liberty City Stories" cost me a nice 2000INR (40US$) That might be a lot considering its just a handheld game. I am never going to even try and find its cheats or ill just be so pissed. The graphics and screen is great. And yeah it also has Wi-fi. Amazing battery life and everything but I really really hate two things about it.

1. Memory - Way too expensive.
2. Movie UMD's - Way way overpriced.

I mean come on man, who the hell is going to buy a UMD Movie for 30~40$?? Instead everyone will pirate stuff. Torrent it, convert it and get a 1GB MS for around that much amount then keep storing and deleting. Thats really stupid on Sony's part. If they would have considerably priced the UMD's. Even I would like a small UMD movie collection just like the DVD collection that I have. Its something that really made me feel bad. But its a gotta have device and lets share our "Gyann" on it.

*Gyann means knowledge in hindi

Buy a handheld for the games. IMO buy a DS LITE, a nice GAMING device. PSP wants to be an all in one device and fails, the two reasons you highlight are just the tip of the iceberg.

Yes torrents are very popular and everyone does pirate, UMDs are failing and someone did point out in another thread. Movies companies are pulling production on the discs as they are rubbish!

Sony and proprietary *sigh*

As pointed by Crazyze, get yourself a DS lite. Its simply the perfect gaming machine. I had a PSP, couldn't tolerate it anymore and sold it and am really glad i got the DS lite.

Get yourself games like Mario Kart DS, Super Mario Bros and Metroid Prime hunters and i guarantee your family and friends won't be seeing you for atleast 2 months!!!

And yea piracy works in everything but there are certain games you just wan't to buy to collect and keep for memories sake :)

1. Memory - Way too expensive.i dont think its expensive. i got a 1GB for AU$40. straight from the shops. it wasnt on clearance discount or nothing like that. when i went to go get it, my mate bought a 2GB instead and he paid AU$70.

What kind of memory was it? I think you got SecureDigital or MultiMediaCard...what we're talking about here is MemoryStick, in which case it is WAY overpriced.

Ok mods am so sorry for posting threads in the wrong sections all the time. I've really been out of touch and its amazing that so many cool sections have been added lately.

Lowdown on piracy after 1 day of PSP use.
Possible but you need to do lots of stuff with the downgrading and after that the UMD's wont play. And any game isnt less then 800 MB. A MS costs around 2300INR (40$) and can only hold one game so you will have to keep deleting it and all that crap. A UMD costs around 1200 ~ 2000 INR so its much better to buy orignal games in this regard. Sony had prevented piracy really nicely here. Moreover the orignal games come with so much cool stuff. I am sure if they reduce the costs of UMD's its going to make a huge diffrence. More knowledge tommorow. :D

Oh am so sorry was really sleepy when I was typing my last post.

Actually what I think that the PSP is a really nice thing. It has a amazing display the iPod is really puny compared to it. Basically if they would have launched a PSP with a 30 GB drive I would have readily paid the amount for the PSP + iPod for it but sadely it doesn't have the huge drive and I am stuck with only 32MB too bad. I got a really cool poster with the GTA UMD. I am thinking now I'll not even try to do RE on it or anything its fine I love the RSS feature and Wi-Fi is also great. Only drawback is the bad input method otherwise its something really nice. Amazing battery life seriously. More gyaan coming soon.

I don't really see the point in a PSP. If you want to watch movies on the move, then fine, but why would you want to play ports of PS2 games with the same graphics on the move and your not really getting anything new. At least with my DS theres loads of new and different things I can do that I can't do with my home consoles, its way more interactive.

Totally agree with you, in a nutshell you can say that the DS is a fun thing but PSP is cool :D

Hey guys one thing I just wanted to ask and if its possible its going to be really really amazing. Can I hook up my iPod to the PSP??

nope, not yet, but i assume a possibility if you tinker with the wires and hardware hard enough. but the psp with the current firmware supports ipod-encoded videos.

I know it does, and I also know that the PSP has a USB port and so does a iPod so is there anything that can be done?

You'd have to do some extensive modding..=) besides, the psp can only recognize up to 4GB in storage anyway so still not worth it. Buy you can connect your psp to a PC, then play your games through the USB cable without wasting space on your meme cards.

White is definitely the colour to go for. Everybody down your street will have a black version. I got my white PSP imported from Hong Kong, and haven't looked back. :D

hmm black is the classic colour to get it in, but white is the classic colour for ipod, so i got a white one, so maybe it would be better to get a white psp to go with my ipod - argh i am confused.

Here is a passage selected by some magazines, which tells us something about how to make your life more colorful when you are on a tedious trip, or stay alone for nothing to do . So how to enjoy yourself and make your life more meaningful? Here is some good advice

hi, guys, at one time, the only way to watch movies when you were out and about was on a portable DVD player. Sure, They looked great, but they still aren't exactly cheap. And they're not all that portable either.

Thanks to a new breed of portable media players, you can now enjoy your videos pretty much anywhere you like. Whether it's on a pocket PC or a Sony PSP. Video-on-the-move is the latest in cool and there's nothing more fun than watching movies when you shouldn't be.

What are the main portable players?

There are a number of choices at the moment when it comes to watching video on the move. Each have their own strengths and weaknesses.

The Sony PSP

You're getting a great entertainment experience here because this system plays some pretty breath taking games as well as having a perfect screen for mobile video. As well as taking small UMD disks, the PSP accepts memory sticks of varying sizes - up to 2 gigabytes.

You can get your own movies onto the Sony PSP with the help of a software tool which can either rip a DVD to the memory card, or convert a movie you've got on your hard drive to this format, such as you can use ImTOO DVD to PSP Converter ,which helps you rip and convert DVD to PSP MP4 video and audio format MP3 or PSP Movie Creator is an excellent gadget for ripping DVDs to your PSP. While DVD to 3GP converts DVD movies to a format that can be uploaded to your cell phone.

Of course, there are other Major Players :
1.The video iPod , with the iPod Video Converter you can convert any movie format you'll come across into iPod compatible movies. that's a good choice.
2. Archos media player, Mobile phone (video enabled) , 4.Watching video on a pocket PC.3.

So , there are a number of interesting tools on the market at the moment
,you can choose one of them , just a few clicks , your work is done. With them , wherever you are, you can always enjoy your favourite music/movie fixed in advance.
