I'm back home in Europe and my subscription over here is about to end, so I can get a new phone at a pretty good price. I currently have a W800 and am thinking of upgrading to a W810. I could have the latter for about $150 over here. Thing is.. if T-Mobile USA, who is my American provider when I'm over in the US, does not support EDGE, I wouldn't have much of a point in upgrading.. would I. The phones are very, very similar for the most part, as I understand. I really love Sony Ericsson and I see no reason to get another brand. The W800 is the best phone I've ever had.. and I just don't see another upgrade than to go with the W810.. at least not currently.
Any comments or thoughts on this? Thanks

Well.. does T-Mobile USA support EDGE?
Short answer, yes.
Where do you live in America? I can better explain edge support for you then.

NY/CT/NJ area;)
EDGE has an approximately 75-80% rollout in TMO's network. This doesn't include roaming partners or shared towers because TMO doesn't yet have an EDGE deal with them. They have a GPRS deal with the majority of partners, but still haven't worked out the EDGE yet.
The NY area (including the surrounding highyways/interstate freeways) has EDGE support. The coasts were the first to get it last November.
If your phone has built in EDGE it will automatically connect at that speed. If you lose range of an EDGE-enabled tower, you'll go back to GPRS without being notified. Since EDGE support from TMO usually has weaker signals, you might not get it inside your house, even if you get a GPRS signal.
Any more questions?
