Microsoft Office 2007 delayed again

03 July 2006 - Microsoft won't be able to release Office 2007 on time in October as promised.

Instead, the company is hoping for a launch by the end of this year for business customers, with general availability for the Office upgrades opening at the beginning of 2007 rather than in January.

Windows Vista and Office have both been delayed before. Office was scheduled to launch in March, but was pushed back to coincide with Vista's launch.

One Citigroup analyst predicts that the push back of the Office launch is the prequel to an announcement delaying Vista again.

Microsoft's line is that is delaying Office to incorporate changes suggested by beta testers.

Jupiter Research analysts Joe Wilcox commented, "It may not instill much confidence with some customers. Microsoft seems unable to meet its dates".

I've been using 2007 Office System Beta 2 full-time for a while now, which is a big thing considering I live in Outlook and Word. There are still a few little bugs that I have found (IMAP in Outlook can be tempermental at times), but overall I'm pretty impressed. Looking forward to the final release.

I also have the Vista Beta in a Virtual Machine, though I'm not prepared to run that full time. The latest build is quite stable though.

Brad you strike me as a guy who would use LaTex over Word for constructing documents!

My friend had the Office Beta 2 running as well and it does seems quite stable according to him. I am still not convinced that the price will justify upgrading from Office 2003.

I do know LaTex actually, am I that obvious? I agree with your price comment, though the updates to Outlook are pretty good. It is a big price to pay.

Hahaha, I know several people who use LaTex. Where I studied most people who do anything technical use LaTex. So useful, I regret not fully appreciating LaTex, will probably never learn it now, only useful to me if I need to hammer out loads of equations :D

Hmm what is LaTex. It is kinda hard to describe. It is a piece of software that makes life easier when producing documents, especially technical documents. So if you want a header, you type the command in for a header and LaTex sorts it out for you. It's not too dissimilar to forums and the commands you need to say change the size of font.

There is only one font the 'LaTex font' which makes the document very professional. The most useful aspect is how it displays equations, much easier than Word.

If you want more info on LaTex go to: http://www.eng.cam.ac.uk/help/tpl/textprocessing/

The engineering department in Cambridge LOVES LaTex and it has all the resources you ever need on learning the program.

If anyone does a science or engineering learn LaTex and do not use Word (I speak from painful technical writeup experience with Word). Obviously Word is easier to use if you only need write a letter and do simple essays!!!!
