Will the 6230 be compatible with OPTUS (AU) Live TV from their GPRS ZOO service?
I really want to watch the free live streaming, even if it is only ABC, SBS or CNNi at the moment.
Also, its free until April 1st, and the 'acceptable user policy' says that they think 10 megs a month of free streaming is ok but no more. How much memory would an hour of streaming be est?
Has anyone used the streaming service before? Whats the quality like? Does anyone know how much they'd charge after April 1st?

I would imagine it'll be compatible since the phone says it can play streaming media, so i'm pretty sure that's a yes!
Its hard to say how much an hour would be, unless you know the frame rate and colour depth of the streaming file, i imagine its full screen isnt it?
As for cost, i hope it would cost less than standard GPRS which is 2.2c/kb peak and 1.1 off peak, according to that 10Meg is $220 worth!!!!!!!

Yes you should. I'll check that tomorrow if i get the time, we dont have the 6230 yet but we have in the 6220 and i think that has the same video viewing feature and i have a optus card laying around.
As for the download of live TV, i used it with a 6600 and from memory it was about 2meg after 10min. The quality is really good, i'd say a little better then watching video on a 56k dial-up. but i guess once optus enable EDGE it should look as good as real TV.
I heard Optus are going to release new GPRS plans in feb/march. Heres hoping for 200 meg for $10! (and not the current $10 for 2!)

Geeez I hope so. GPRS is pretty pricy ATM. I mean, can you imagine watching an hour of live tv streaming at those prices?
The feature would be pointless if you cant at least watch a program in full. Like, why bother if you could only afford to watch like 10 mins of a 30 min show?

I _think_ the 6220 has the same streaming media support as the 6230, so i'll test the 6220 today when im at work (about 5pm W.A time). I'll post the news tonight when i get home.

6220 doesn't support streaming. Only local video playback is supported.

yeah. Wouln't work. Like the guy said i mustn't support streaming.
Also, i think it might be in .rm format. If so, that would mean the 6230 is out of luck to?

On the Nokia website it says 6230 supports video playback and streaming, and only playback with the 6220.
Would be interesting to see what format OPTUS stream with cause the 6230 also supports 3G.

I think he meant it supports the .3gp format, not tha its a 3G phone! Cos its not!!! It has just about every other feature though!

^^
You could still theoretically use it as a 3G phone though, the other person would just be looking at your feet right?

surely there's a way for nokia to build a digital TV reciever into a phone so that you can watch TV for free. That'd be nice :)

I heard they were already doing that.
Why cant they just stick an analogue TV reciever in, that'd do me fine.

Analogue TV receiver in mobile?! Would be kinda worthless since the analogue signal strenght varies so much in different areas. So, basicly watching TV for example in a moving car would be almost impossible with the analogue receiver, but with digital receiver through IP datacast it would work.

I believe that there is a mobile that has a TV tuner in it, i think its a Japanese phone, but i remember reading about it a few months ago, it may have even been on this site.
