Hello people....
I will be buying my first cell phone so am a complete newbie in this regard...

My budget is about 5000-6000 Indian Rupees (abt. 100-120 $)

I want a camera (VGA) phone (candybar design) - the quality of images would be an important deciding factor (probably most important)

I don't need video recording.
I won't be playing that many java games and don't need MP3 capabilaty
FM is not an absolute necessity but would be nice to have.

I would prefer fast response time and a good ,non clumsy keypad layout.

Memory - I guess I don't need that much ...just a decent amount

Some of the models of various companies lying in my budget are :
Nokia - 6020
SE - K300i
Samsung - X620
Motorola - L6
LG - C2500 - (I'm not sure about LGs - are they good performance-wise/look - wise)

Which one should I get ???

The nokia 6020 is good. Nice batt life, bright screen, and it's nice to hold and text with. The L6 is also nice, but it's a bit slippery and it doesn't feel all that solid (it kinda bends a little when you press on the keypads).

cheers!

The sharp GX20 has an unbelievably fantastic VGA camera and screen....pricing should be within budget...although its a flip not a candybar

What about the 6230?
That should be in budget
has fast response time
has VGA camera
has FM radio
can play java games
Decent size
looks nice
comfy tactile buttons to text with

From your selection I would choose the L6

The Sharp GX20 has one of the best screens and cameras. The screen on the GX20 is better then that on my Nokia N70
