Does anyone know why it is that the 6600 only accepts MMC cards(As opposed to SD cards-I thought they were similar if not the same).
Also, Why does it only accept cards up to 128MB ?
cheers

From what I have seen and been told, the NK6600 will take any size MMC card.

They are only officially compatible with cards up to 128, though people have used 512 without problems.
SD and MMC are different.
Hi there,
You can use the 512 card wihout any problem in the NOK 6600.
MMC and SD are different.......very different.
Cheers :)

MMC has fewer connectors and is thinner, but can be read in SD slots.
The thinner part is the reason Nokia is using them, I believe.

I have just bought a 128Mb MMC card and all fine. Have read several forums where people have had some problems with cheap 256 and 512Mb cards. I think the rule is ensure you buy a decent MMC make and not some cheap rubbish.

My advice would be to purchase an MMC from a store/online e-tailer and not Ebay so if you have problems you can return the item.
Good/recommended brands:
Sandisk
Kingmax (I use a 256mb one of these)
Toshiba
PQI
PNY
Viking Components
Kingston
Memorex
Crucial (if you can find them)
Nokia have so much wasted space in their phones that the 0.75mm more they need for SD (MMC card is 1.35mm thick) should not really be an issue - but I suspect the electronics to read SD cards is more complex too since they have two additional pins for digital encryption.

Any idea how much the 1GB MMC costs? I wonder if that would work in a mobile, they say its recommended for use in mobiles on that page...

You obviously have no clue what's a good brand. Sandisk has a notoriously high failure rate. Lexar is a better choice. Problem is that both of them have given up on the MMC market, only making MMC up to 128MB.

I reckon I have more clue than you having invested a lot of money in mobile phone and computer equipment. Sandisk's failure rate is no worse than any other brand (in fact it's probably better), plus if you tried looking at all you would find that Sandisk makes OEM products for most companies, that and they are one of the world's largest manufacturers.
I suggest you are more careful in the future rather than coming on in here and attacking people.
Though giving you some credit, I did forget to list Lexar...

At a guess I'd reckon it's going to cost the best part of the mobile phones price. A good bet is usually the 2nd-top end card (i.e. 512mb) then double that price and add about 15% onto the price. With any luck anyway, the release of a 1Gb card will force down the price of 512mb and 256mb (256mb is actually at a reasonable price now anyway).
But seriously, what's going to go on a 1Gb card? I have trouble filling up my 256mb card with Java games, a few N-Gage games (which I am allowed to do since I have the originals) and a handful of my favourite MP3s. Video quality on these phones isn't stellar. I'd use my PDA anyday for these kind of features.

Actually, Sandisk are qiute notorious for being a "cheapo" brand and lack quality.
Steer clear of them.

They make the best performing compact flash cards on the market, for example. Their Ultra II line can't be beat currently, not even by the 40x Lexar cards.
Sandisk created the entire removeable flash memory market, and is the inventor of the Compact Flash format.
They have a very active R&D area. They aren't just rebranding cheapo imported cards.

... Which is precisely my reason for stating that they are a very good brand, anyway no-one can force you to use what brand you use in your phone but I recommend people don't go taking one bad experience as unanimous to the whole brand.
