Hello just recieved my N80, how do you install the latest firmware onto it?
thank you

First of all, check if you DO have the latest since u just bought it. check by pressing:*#0000#.
Secondly, use the search tool, there is alot of topics about flashing phones, also search for "N80 Problems" and check there for firmwares and other issues.
Third, if you are not 100% familiar with computer usage and program installations and uninstallations, you may not want to try to flash your phone unless you are 100% confident you wont do anything wrong because a mistake in flashing means your N80 is going back to Nokia for a while..
I hope that helped you out :)

Just to say its on, that way when the screen turns off while on standby, you'll still be able to tell it's on by the blinking light:)

think i may of found a couple of faults:-
when going into the gallery every now and again a message appears saying database corrupt data may be missing.
With the camera when entering this mode it will come up with a message saying memory card not found, phone memory being used but if i go back a step and then check memory status its fine its being read correctly.
not sure if this is a phone or orange fault when connecting via gprs it comes up sometimes saying packet data connection not avaliable and with the wlan it says authetication failed but will work if i try a few times, its all set up correctly.
does anybody else have any of these issues?
thank you

So far, AFAIK, v 3.0617.0.6 IS the latest.. NO one reported ANY of the problems you mentioned so iam thinking there is something faulty with your unit... contact orange and see what is wrong with your device and get it changed

I've had a couple of "low memory" messages pop-up on me - once in a while, but so far the card hasn't dissappeared yet.
cheers!

i think it is supposed to stay on as part of the night mode video recording, my n70 did the same however a 6280 doesn't. it might be an s60 thing for some reason.

kornnutcase, I think your memory card has gone bad.
Either format it or get a new one. You'll have to reinstall all your programs again.

With regards to the message someone had that data may be lost or the memory card is not available, have you tried making sure that the memory card is clicked into place? I had this problem with my 6630 too (exactly the same messages) until I realised the card wasnt clicked into place properly! Since it was clicked into place properly the problem went. With my N80 I made sure that clicked into place too and have never had that problem.

Apparently that firmware version (v 4.0623.0.36) is fake and was photoshoped.
Which I think might be true. The blue area around the digits isn't smooth ...

idk I've always found screenshots to be always unclear anyways...not saying it may not be fake, but I've found it to be a general trend.

The blue area around the digits isn't smooth ...
I think that's due to the type of image compression aswell as maybe what carcomptoy said, it would be easy to make that area smooth in photoshop.
Edit: This link has examples of what I mean. http://www.siriusweb.com/tutorials/gifvsjpg/

Ahh, touché ... then we can't claim that its fake ... yet ...

Looking at that photo, the photo is a fake (whether the firmware is real or not). Look at the spacing between the final 3 and 6 on the 'V4.0623.0.36' bit, it is incorrect, slightly too wide apart. MikeUK is right about the compression, though why someone would bother to over-compress it is beyond me and also high-compression tends to be a good mask for poor Photoshop work (alongside added noise).

Just got my phone direct from 3 UK, and the firmware is:
v3.0618.0.2 (23-05-2006), RM-92, Nokia N80 (45.02)
Had a few crashes on it, low memory notifications, thumbnails not been displayed in gallery, bluetooth issues and battery life is poor, but apart from that, its a mint phone.

Yea, V3.0618.0.2 is only for Hutchinson 3G N80s (I don't know why).
I don't know what they changed for the H3G N80s ...

If it's anything like their previous phones it's probably disabling the mode selection menu (dual-mode/GSM only) and locking their webpages/homepage into ROM. I heard they might have disabled WiFi too but that may apparently just be a rumour.

My nokia firmware version is: V 4.0623.0.42
And i'm havign alot of problems with it..
does anyone know if its possible to rollback to my old firmware versionw here i had no problems? dont remember waht version that was.
thanks
hi koony,
You cannot roll back your firmware.
What you should do is to format your memory card and do a hard re set on your phone.
Save all your messages in the sms to your memory card, change the log settings to 1 or 10 day if needed nil is better.
Please check if all your apps have loaded up properly via apps manager. if your have any un-installed apps and if it does not load properly then you will have to delete it form the memory card.
Also make sure the SMS accelerator is uploaded in your phone, please remember to upload it everytime you upgrade your firmware.
I am sure most of your troubles will be sorted if you did the above.
Please be very selective re the themes you use.
cheers,
:)mie

now from my general knowledge here, how doing these things would solve the problems that might come with the firmware vesion, some firmwares are just bad and theres no solution for them, like with my 6630 one firmware made my screen blink constantly, the speakers sounded like it was blow and needed a new one and the phone crashed all the time but now with the new one the speaker sounds better, the screen dont blink and no crashing
sometimes the firmwares arent good and theres no way to fix them

Simple answer, you can't. I had this issue when I replaced my friend's cover with a Nokia black OEM one. Whatever I did to it, the auto keypad lock wouldn't activate any more, so in the end we simply set the auto security lock on it and auto-keylock software.

why didnt it work anymore ? replacing the cover shouldnt have anything to do with the auto lock feature.
so everytime i have to lock the keypad i have to open the slider and close it, or press the power button and choose the lock keypad option ???

Well, I don't know why but I think the switch which controls the auto-lock was damaged or something. I was really careful, but I don't know how that particular function works.

Yes, I had this same issue on my friend's one and have no idea how to fix it. We never resolved the issue. Try Googling it.

Does the N80 use a physical switch or a magnetic switch for its autolock? If its a physical one you may have snapped the actuator when removing the cover. If it's a magnetic one then the magnet may have fallen out.
makie

N80. changed the covers with black one from ebay retailer and the autolock function didn't work, looked like two contacts not making and breaking etc. not so!
If you look at the plastic part of the slide there is a small magnet stuck to it, transfer this and the sun comes out birds sing and all is well, the youtube vid omits this so fools the unobservent like me! ( and my brother)
Hope this helps some one.

Thought it would be something like that. Had the same problem with my Laptop a while back. Turns out that the magnet for the switch had fallen out.
