I really like the Motorola A1200 or 'ming'. It is only avaliable in Asia I think. I have seen them for sale on ebay and such. My sister is in Singapore for a few days. If she were to buy one for me would it work here in the UK?
I currently have an old Nokia 6600 on a Vodafone pay monthly contract. If I put my Vodafone sim card in the 'ming' will it work the same as it does in the 6600?
Also will the 'ming' have an english setting or will all the text and such be completely foreign?
Sorry I don't know much about importing phones.
The Ming is quad-band GSM, so providing you get one that is unlocked, it should work on any GSM network world-wide.

Will a sim-free pay as you go version be unlocked?
I don't know about the A1200 specifically since it's not yet released where I live, but the E680 and other similar phones all have English in addition to a localized language setting. When switching to a particular language all the default folders are automatically renamed as well.

theres a settings in the Motorola mobiles that let you change the language around.
I don't think Singapore sells mobile locked but i do recommend checking them.

it is available anywhere in the us via online retailers.
i use www.wirelessimports.com they have the ming for around $500 inc shipping i think, but goggle it and you may find one cheaper. It will come unlocked, but as far as pay as you go it shouldnt be a problem. Call up your provider and tell them you want to use that plan with your current phone and they should be able to do it.

Oh, and good luck with it! Post here about your impressions when and if you purchase it.
Singapore phones are all unlocked just like H.K.
